What a bloody shame. Sad

OP posts:

Yes Hakluyt, it would seem so, given responses on previous threads.

Hakluyt · 28/10/2014 21:34

But I don't know which I find most depressing- the conditioning by the marketing people that has convinced women that they are smelly or the mainstreaming of a pornographic sensibility that has convinced women that normal adult body hair is disgusting.

maddy68 · 28/10/2014 21:37

Minges smell, as do arm pits, hair traps the smell (it's meant too!) it's designed to trap pheromones

I would rather not smell. Your choice if you want too, the same as it's my choice not too.
Not a conditioning syndrome rather a nasal one

IdaClair · 28/10/2014 21:38

How do you know that it feels 'cleaner' to have it that way without first being socially conditioned to remove it?

maddy68 · 28/10/2014 21:38

And I don't know why my iPad has insisted it's too not to!

maddy68 · 28/10/2014 21:40

Because it's sweaty Similarly when I had long hair my neck would get sweaty, makes sense to me if you don't like to feel sweaty, remove hair!

ZombiePuffinsAreREAL · 28/10/2014 22:04

Well, I must be a medical marvel. Neither the hair around my vulva nor my armpit hair smells. Probably because I wash.

I am going to get my hairy ass off to a freak show.

Hmm
BertieBotts · 28/10/2014 22:04

I feel sweatier without it personally, I think it's what you're used to. I never removed mine when I was younger and got used to having it and now I don't. One thing I have never liked though is when you're on your period (or ovulating) and the blood/other stuff gets caught in the hairs and then the hair touches your leg and feels wet and horrible, so I tend to trim it short, but I don't like being completely bald.

I'd be cautious about using immac on it, BTW, as it can cause burns to sensitive skin, obviously skin down there is a bit more sensitive than armpits and legs.

SkaterGrrrrl · 28/10/2014 22:47

"Its not social conditioning, it's a pong issue for me"

What a coincidence that an entire generation of women have all made a personal, individual choice to remove their pubic hair.

maddy68 · 28/10/2014 22:50

Don't be silly, my sisters don't, my mum never has, rash generalisation there. Entire generation? Rediculous claim

unlucky83 · 28/10/2014 23:07

DD1 started removing hers at about 11 - used a dry razor Shock. She had been doing her armpits and legs for a year or so ...she has really dark hair. I'm not very hairy anyway - used to do my pits and legs years ago but now don't bother unless I'm going swimming - social conditioning!
I think it was down to things like TOWIE talking about vajazzles etc. (Not that she got to see TOWIE - but I think they talked about it at school etc - she definitely knows about it..) I warned her about getting infections etc and she never took it seriously.

What stopped her was someone on here posting a picture of her infected fanny ....I showed her and also said the person in question had had to go to the GP. I think the idea of showing the gp - and saying why - was enough. She now just trims the edges with a pair of scissors...

Hakluyt · 28/10/2014 23:13

Just checking- when you said "I would rather not smell. Your choice if you want too, the same as it's my choice not too" you do realize you are saying that all women who do not remove their pubic hair small? Was that your intention?

Hakluyt · 28/10/2014 23:14

Including your mum and your sisters?

StarlingMurmuration · 28/10/2014 23:28

I do hate how women who do remove their pubes always seem to frame The debate as smelly vs not smelly. It's pretty insulting.

BlueberryWafer · 29/10/2014 08:04

I remove my bodily hair, but not because I think I'll smell if I don't (that's a silly argument btw - if you wash every day you are not going to smell) but because I just genuinely enjoy being smooth! I understand I probably started removing body hair when I was a teenager because is seen an advert for a razor or an article in a magazine (I can't actually pin point when I started) but all I know is that after is done it once I liked the smoothness and so continued. I couldn't give a rats arse what anyone thinks if I went swimming with hairy armpits or legs, so that's not why I do it now. And I never shaved when heavily pregnant with ds because I couldn't reach, so no doubt will be hairy at the end of this pregnancy too! DP doesn't care either way tbh, or at least he's never said anything to me!

OP as long as your daughter knows it's her body and it's "normal" to leave the hair OR shave it (if she wants to shave don't go making her feel bad about it just as if she leaves it she shouldn't feel bad either) just make it into a non issue and she will probably just leave the hair there anyway!

maddy68 · 29/10/2014 08:19

Actually I am really sensitive to smells as are a lot of people, see this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2217898-Got-told-at-work-today-that-I-smell? I can smell my sisters despite them being very clean people. I know they shower every morning. I can always tell if they (and other people) have their period for example Hair is as I said earlier there for a reason to trap pheromones (which smell!) that is natural I just don't particularly like it!
My choice as a woman to do what I like. My husband couldn't give two hoots what I did.

msrisotto · 29/10/2014 08:32

If this is about smell, why don't men shave their pits and pubes?

maddy68 · 29/10/2014 08:34

A lot of men shave their pubes

msrisotto · 29/10/2014 08:36

It is very unusual for men to shave their pubes IME. Something slightly easier for us to examine is men who shave their underarms. Can't say I've ever seen it in the general public or professional sports.

Hakluyt · 29/10/2014 08:41
Grin

Can you tell by nose alone whether a woman you're talking to has a Brazilian or a Hollywood?

maddy68 · 29/10/2014 08:43

I'm my extensive slut experience more men shave their pubes than don't these days. Maybe it's a generational thing as I'm sure my dad and his cronies wouldn't?
I also know that I find mens pubes personally really unattractive and a total turn off so I would be unlikely to be with someone who was hairy. Different preferences. Non of which are wrong
I certainly would encourage a 12 year old to make her own mind up. Personal choice. Some people do some people don't shave. Entirely her choice

Hakluyt · 29/10/2014 08:52

You didn't say whether you can tell by smell alone whether women have pubic hair or not.......

maddy68 · 29/10/2014 08:55

I can smell vagina on many women I can certainly smell it on myself , much more if I don't shave Hence that's why I do shave

Hakluyt · 29/10/2014 09:11

I suspect that in a past life you were a dog!
