Yep. Horrific. The kapo who is saying its ok for men to grope breasts and shouldn't be a crime????

qumquat · 24/09/2014 12:53

Also that definitions of rape are too blurred, and she is ashamed to be a woman today. My jaw was on the floor

meringue33 · 24/09/2014 12:55

Just because assault is commonplace does not make it ok!

Scarletohello · 24/09/2014 12:55

So disgusting. I'm so fucking angry. I've just had to turn it off as I can't listen to it anymore. I really want to make a complaint about this. How do they always manage to get these victim blaming tape apologists on? And a bloody WOMAN too??!!

Scarletohello · 24/09/2014 12:57

And 'groping someone's tits' IS a fucking crime you moron. It's called sexual assault !

Who was that woman anyway? ( the Scottish one)

qumquat · 24/09/2014 12:58

Now a caller saying she's had her breasts groped so many times she would be prosecuted if she tried to take all the men to court!!
I thought the other journalist handled it well.
She also used the classic 'there are so many terrible things happening to women around the world, how dare you kick up a fuss about a little breast grope?' Sat here looking at my baby daughter feeling pretty blue

Tried to phone in but couldn't get through. Nobody said what I wanted to, which was:

"There is a fundamental principle at stake here. My body is MINE. I choose who touches it. If some random 70s throwback touches my intimate areas against my will YES that is and should remain a crime!!

It is not my place to police my body and fight off attackers. It is other people's job to take responsibility for their own behaviour and respect other people's boundaries and human dignity. And it is the job of the law to enforce that."

iamEarthymama · 24/09/2014 13:10

There was a good programme on BBC3 last night.
Free Speech, it's on iPlayer
The question was
"Do we live in a sexist society?"
My niece went along and said Laura Bates of Everyday Sexism was brilliant

Lottapianos · 24/09/2014 13:10

'She also used the classic 'there are so many terrible things happening to women around the world, how dare you kick up a fuss about a little breast grope?' '

Dear god, do people still trot out that utter nonsense? I guess they think it makes them sound all worldly wise and cool about the whole thing, but they just sound stupid and insensitive.

You have to remind yourself its 2014, and that we are actually not all extras in Mad Men Sad

Lottapianos · 24/09/2014 13:11

Was this the Jeremy Vine show by the way? Honestly people, do yourselves and your blood pressure a favour and avoid like the plague. Listen to something more thoughtful and interesting, like paint drying Hmm

Scarletohello · 24/09/2014 13:13

Meringue, you have articulated really well what I in my jumbled up thoughts, wanted to say.

PuffinsAreFicticious · 24/09/2014 13:20

Jeremy Vine, for example, is a twat.

qumquat · 24/09/2014 13:20

I know lotta. I'm used to callers being loons, but it was the whole 'balanced argument' between two journalists which really shocked me

OP posts:
meringue33 · 24/09/2014 13:35

Even Jeremy Vine was shocked at what the apologist woman was saying!

SevenZarkSeven · 24/09/2014 19:49

I didn't hear it.

Is the point that some people think that the sexual assault laws "go too far" and should be changed? Do people really believe that, do you think?

whatdoesittake48 · 24/09/2014 20:04

Not far enough in my view. I had to turn it off too. It sounded as though they probably got on the most reprehensible person they could find to watch it all kick off. .. Jeremy vine or Jeremy Kyle?

7Days · 24/09/2014 20:49

Who is dlt and why is only referred to in initials around the site?

So sexual harrassment laws are gone too far are they. Fucking stupid, whoever said that.

CrewElla · 24/09/2014 20:53

Former DJ Dave Lee Travis - dlt is probably used because typing out his name is annoying.

7Days · 24/09/2014 20:57

ah, thank you, not in UK so wouldn't be a known name to me.
