Awesome

I don't know how old it is or anything but it is really good

I think you make some good points Brewster and I liked Dervel's viewpoint too.

I'm surprised that people think it's appropriate to compare women's position with that of the disabled, however. I also want to add that calling someone a 'misogynist dickhead' is exactly the sort of partisan derision that I think needs to be consigned to the past. This MRA in female form.

7Days · 24/09/2014 21:47

You've missed the comparison that was being made Esto.

And 'misogynist dickhead' does really suit some people.

PetulaGordino · 24/09/2014 21:50

i think the implication is that feminists aren't p'lite and respec'ful enough

Estorilian · 24/09/2014 21:54

Well, that's me told Hmm

Estorilian · 24/09/2014 22:03

Tell me Petula, do you ever take anything at face-value or do you always bend things towards pre-rehearsed arguments. I dont get the impression that you're actually interested in any opinions that don't match your own, but rather try to match them to predetermined narratives. This is why I'm not really interested in engaging with some people; they are stuck in a certain mindset from which they can't move on. Gender-dynamics are constantly evolving, however. They are fluid. People need to be fluid too.

PetulaGordino · 24/09/2014 22:10

is this because i challenged you on your use of language in a feminist forum?

YonicScrewdriver · 24/09/2014 22:10

Est, how do you feel the patriarchy affects you personally?

Estorilian · 24/09/2014 22:15

Actually its because you essentially reword sections of every post I make.

Having said that, I just read your post about racism and liked it. I wonder why you take an open approach to that issue, but are so goady with me?

PetulaGordino · 24/09/2014 22:18

no, i ask you to clarify your points. you write in rather an obscure way, i am asking you if my interpretation is correct. if it isn't, say so. respond to questions, such as yonicscrewdriver's above, it helps those who are trying to discuss things with you understand your point of view.

7Days · 24/09/2014 22:18

I also am surprised that someone would compare calling someone a 'misogynist dickhead', (a feminist's act, probably many feminists do it) with threatening to hunt down and rape people (MRA tactic)

Estorilian · 24/09/2014 22:36

I'm sorry, but I really can't agree. And I don't feel disposed to answer a raft of questions just so people can look for ways to take the piss. For instance, 7days your last comment - is pointing out the worst excesses of MRAs to excuse feminists a valid argument in your mind or are you just trying to start an argument?

YonicScrewdriver · 24/09/2014 22:39

But I've only asked one tiny question.

YonicScrewdriver · 24/09/2014 22:41

Isn't she pointing out the magnitude of the difference between the "feminist worst" and the "MRA worst" and thereby expressing surprise at your comparison?

A bit like you expressed surprise at the comparison of women and the disabled?

So how is her post fight picking?

The question was basically the same from everyone. If you're unable to answer, that's fine, but at least be up front about it rather than being, what was it? Supercilious and sarcastic to people.

And Ally Fogg is a misogynist and he is a dickhead about it. Sorry if bad words upset you.

Estorilian · 24/09/2014 22:58

QED, I think. I shall now follow my own suggestion and withdraw from engagement. This is like speaking to the demolition department about the rebuild. Like Petula saw fit to remind me, this is a feminist forum and not RL.

YonicScrewdriver · 24/09/2014 22:59

" I dont get the impression that you're actually interested in any opinions that don't match your own,"

Bye then!

PuffinsAreFicticious · 24/09/2014 23:05

Oh dear, did I scare the man away? The one who gave his manly view?

Meh.

Estorilian · 24/09/2014 23:12

Christ, what a playground. Activists my arse. Hobbyists more like. Go troll some MRAs.

YonicScrewdriver · 24/09/2014 23:12

What activism are you undertaking, Est?

PetulaGordino · 24/09/2014 23:17

So that went:

Estorilian
"Feminists won't like what I've got to say"

Other posters:
"Please clarify your POV"

Estorilian:
"I knew you wouldn't like what I was saying, I'm leaving"

PuffinsAreFicticious · 24/09/2014 23:19

You have absolutely no clue how you've behaved have you? You lack even that level of self awareness.

You demanded that we only frame arguments to your satisfaction, we didn't comply, so you accused us of being supercilious and sarcastic. When asked questions about the way you frame your arguments you refuse. You called an adult out on language they used about a man who repeatedly writes misogynistic diatribes and then flounce. And we're the children?

Go back to wherever you came from. Come back when you can formulate a cogent argument without having to dictate the form of other people's answers. Or don't.

Estorilian · 24/09/2014 23:26

No. I'm not interested in a desultory war of words with strangers on the internet. This is pathetic and underlines every point I've made. There are some very thoughtful and concerned people on here, but there are also some that want to paint a relentlessly negative picture and then shout down and mock anyone that dares say otherwise. This is why feminism has a bad name and why very few people in real life take it seriously.

Estorilian · 24/09/2014 23:29

Make your self sound as clever as you want. I'm sure your little friends will applaud you.

PetulaGordino · 24/09/2014 23:33

Did you come here to try to change opinions or to be open to others' opinions?
