Over dinner he asked why its "surname" and asked if it's to do with being a "sir" ie because of it being a man's name

He was then baffled as to why a woman would have to change her name

Then we had a (simple) chat about patriarchy. and women not having the vote.

He then asked if that was because men were scared because women had the power to have babies

that's brilliant - he's obviously being raised to question things, which is a credit to you. Hope I can encourage my DS (7 months!) to think critically too.
