Why is FWR hardly ever in active convos?

I used to post here a lot everyday.

We had our ups and downs but I learned and shared so much. It was a big part of my life. The fwr board drew me back into feminist activism that I'd been neglecting for a few years.

But then, as I've heard through the grapevine applies to others too, I took a hiatus from MN for well over a year, if not 2.

Now I'm back posting again as I have a fair bit of free time atm but I'm really noticing the lack of activity on fwr. I usually just go on active. But there's hardly any fwr threads there. I have to specifically come over here and then the threads have run their course or are short. There is the pub one, but that wasn't here before and I'd feel like I was butting into a private conversation iykwim.

So do we need a bit of a strategy for getting the fwr board back to its prominent position or is it a dead horse?

I really think it served an excellent function in engaging women with feminism who had previously been ambivalent or anti feminist.

It has highs and lows I think. Recently it was all over the place with TERF discussions. I think people are a bit exhausted from all that now!

There's usually 2 or 3 in Active Convos when I'm on MN. How many d'you want?

The pub is very friendly and welcoming, the regs love to see people popping in and out

FWR might be one of the sections that has more lurkers than posters.

It is attacked fairly regularly by the hairy handed too, so more threads may be deleted. However, I admire the FWR regulars for continuing to post in the face of such deliberate attempts to silence them.

Pinklepurr- there haven't been any the numerous times over the past week when I've checked.

And generally over the past couple of months I just do to think in seeing as many as was usual a couple of years ago.

I'll try the pub but I do think mn is losing something important by not having a more prominent fwr section.

Don't forget MN just gets bigger and more active. What governs Active, I forget - last 50 threads posted on at the second you look? A lot of FWR threads have several posts in a 15 min period and then go quiet for an hour or two etc - unless you were on Active at the right moment, you'd miss it.

I always have an FWR thread in my Threads I'm On and click from there to the topic. Then I answer any that catch my eye and pootle off for a bit.

I think it goes in cycles. It was all over Active a couple of weeks ago; now maybe people are a bit talked out!

It isn't as buzzing as it was a few years back, I think.

weatherall I think MN is generally quieter than it used to be and that's reflected in this section if that's any help. Your post rings true for me too.

I didn't know there were meet-ups though, that's exciting!

I feel a bit ungrateful to criticise FWR, though.

When I first found MN I would have called myself a feminist but I was nowhere near as confident about it, and I learned a lot. And I remember back then people were lamenting that the site was getting too slow and dull and dumbed down, and I remember feeling a bit funny about it, because the implication was that us newbies made it that way.

Well, I just found this thread in Active.

I lurk, generally. I like reading FWR but don't post much.
Might mosey down the pub for one though. I've never been.

FWR itself goes in fits and starts, however, what I have noticed is that there is more feminist chat all over the place, and that a lot of the regulars on here have commented on a lot of those threads.

There do seem to be a lot of lurkers, some of whom are now posting more, which is brilliant.

What does make me sad is the continued misinformation about FWR that we're a bunch of scary people who eat newbies for breakfast and all hate men. We were all newbies on here at some point, some of us coming here with almost no knowledge of what feminism was really about, we're all still alive, and still posting. I actually feel that FWR is one of the most supportive areas on MN at the moment.

I agree wholeheartedly with this.

I have noticed a definite increase in right wing posters on MN lately. I think they are unlikely to seek out FWR.
