I really wanted to share this brilliantly written and thought out article by an actress's about why she now refuses to take parts that involve violence against women and how we are facing a tsunami of sexism in the media and why it has to stop.

Wow what a fantastic article by a very talented actress. Bloody depressing stuff and I agree with her totally.

I tried watching Luther (Idris Elba of course) and gave up after a few episodes. I simply found the relentless torture and terror of women in it unwatchable. DH and I sat through half of one episode then turned to each other in disgust and never watched it again, we felt sick. And sick of it.

As in many tv dramas, men are stabbed/shot and it's over, women are subjected to lengthy scenes of "entertaining" terror, torture, rape, prolonged murder, murders in flashback etc.

Likewise The Fall, where I didn't even watch one complete episode before giving up. Terror of women as entertainment, yet again.

If only all decent actors refused to act in this sort of stuff, programme makers would have to change the formula, surely.

Great article. There are SO many things on TV that I can't watch anymore, because I don't want to see this shit.
