This one, from one of my favourite feminist films, North Country.

"I WANT to be a lesbian!"

Don't we all, don't we all!! :)

I'll be a post feminist in post patriarchy.

So easy to be blasé about some other group making progress towards equality over centuries, with future progress occuring at a similarly glacial pace

i am not a geological formation, so that kind of pace is just not good enough

go on and tell me, my daughter, why we ought to be patient for something that won't happen in our lifetime
...

Gradual erosion my bum

what am i , limestone?

illcounttothree · 21/06/2014 21:02

“I want a Zero Tolerance policy on All The Patriarchal Bullshit.”
? Caitlin Moran, How to Be a Woman

Beachcomber · 22/06/2014 00:24

Good call CrotchMaven.

Chibi's "what am I, limestone" is one of my all time favourites on MN. I laughed as much as I nodded.

Bluestocking · 22/06/2014 00:25

Rebecca West: "I myself have never been able to find out what feminism is; I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat or a prostitute."

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 22/06/2014 00:29

By Trills
Feminism for dummies (IMO) :

Do you think that people should be equally valued and respected and given equal opportunities, regardless of their sex/gender? Do you think that this is not currently the case? Would you like it to be the case? Congratulations, you are a feminist. Now go find out more about how and why this is not the case (even in places where you thought everything was fine), and how you can encourage it to become the case.

'all men are potential rapists' Against our Will, Susan Brownmiller

I post this because it is so wilfully misused and misunderstood, and yet it clearly struck an enormous and powerful chord with women and men, which is why it has been wilfully misused and misunderstood for 44 years now.

DonkeySkin · 22/06/2014 03:48

'While gossip among women is universally ridiculed as low and trivial, gossip among men, especially if it is about women, is called theory, or idea, or fact.'

Andrea Dworkin, Right-Wing Women

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/06/2014 03:56

"Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them." Now I've applied for Canadian citizenship, I feel the need to adopt the feminism of my home country. Grin

Or

"I became a feminist as an alternative to being a masochist." Which, I think, is the nub of it. The alternative to feminism is, I don't want equality, the right to my own reproductive decisions, my own money/home/vote. I want to be told what to do/think/be.

StewiesBack · 22/06/2014 08:37

I love this from Dale Spender:

“Feminism has fought no wars. It has killed no opponents. It has set up no concentration camps, starved no enemies, practiced no cruelties.
Its battles have been for education, for the vote, for better working conditions…for safety on the streets…for child care, for social welfare…for rape crisis centers, women’s refuges, reforms in the law.
If someone says, “Oh, I’m not a feminist,” I ask, “Why, what’s your problem?”

StewiesBack · 22/06/2014 08:38

Although my favourite is the Margaret Atwood quote from MrsTerryPratchett

vesuvia · 22/06/2014 11:12

I like:

"Women's Liberation. When do we want it? Now!"

tintin1969 · 22/06/2014 15:18

"Behind every great man is a bewildered woman".

StewiesBack · 22/06/2014 16:34

Behind every great man is a woman who was denied the same opportunities in education and employment because of misogynistic men, including the ever-present mansplainers.

Me: in response to almost every single post in FWR written by a man.

StewiesBack · 22/06/2014 16:36

I'm also a great fan of the "feminism is the radical notion that women are human too"

SpiffingGalore · 22/06/2014 16:55

"We have begun to raise daughters more like sons... but few have the courage to raise our sons more like our daughters" - Gloria Steinem

I think a lot about how to bring my boys up, and particularly how to teach them to understand and recognise their privilege without feeling guilty about who and what they are.

SpiffingGalore · 22/06/2014 16:58

Btw, I think all the other quotes are fantastic, and rather more to do with broader feminist thought than mine. The one I posted just really resonates with me at the moment.

I have spent a lot of time thinking about how feminism relates to women, and very little thinking about how it relates to men.

StewiesBack · 22/06/2014 17:03

This literally just popped up on my twitter feed: "When men are oppressed its a tragedy, When women are oppressed its tradition."
Letty Cottin Pogrebin

SconeRhymesWithGone · 22/06/2014 17:13

"I’m rising on the floor today to humbly give voice to thousands of Texans who have been ignored."

Texas State Senator Wendy Davis, beginning her 13-hour filibuster against Gov. Rick Perry’s draconian anti-abortion bill

QisforQcumber · 22/06/2014 18:04

Ayn Rand - "The question isn't who is going to let me, it's who is going to stop me".

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 22/06/2014 18:08

Scone, Fascinating day in history to follow. Also made me re watch the west wing. Im in London, but follow her campaigns now. Very inspiring.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 22/06/2014 21:56

"Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short, wear shirts and boots, because it's OK to be a boy, but for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because you think that being a girl is degrading..."

The Cement Garden

“Why do people say "grow some balls"? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding.”

Sheng Wang

TheSarcasticFringehead · 22/06/2014 22:44

'First and foremost, I'm a feminist. And basically that stems from a strong belief that all people and creatures deserve equal opportunity, rights and respect.'

It sums up feminism...not the weird, woman-hating ideas some members of society have, but just simply thinking everyone is equal, and that includes women.

lemonpoppyseed · 22/06/2014 23:06

Caitlin Moran - from How to be a Woman: "Do you have a vagina? and
do you want to be in charge of it? If you said 'yes' to both, then congratulations! You're a feminist."
