Anyone know the story behind this farce?

No but I need to work on my shocked and surprised face for a few minutes.

I like that Les Hommesplaining is a thing.

AICM · 17/06/2014 20:28

So let’s get this straight; at a conference of 1000 women where the vast majority of panels were all women 5 men turn up to help discuss a situation that we (us feminists) never stop moaning about, and the their thanks is to be flamed over the internet across the world. Somebody enlighten me? Why should they have bothered?
Well done noblegiraffe you’ve done the double whammy.
You’ve made us look stupid and you actually made things worse.

scallopsrgreat · 17/06/2014 20:35

Speak for yourself AICM. She hasn't made me look stupid nor has she made things worse Confused. Pretty harsh and unnecessary there for passing on and questioning something that's been tweeted thousands of times around the internet already.

noblegiraffe asked the question as to what the story was behind this. She didn't just take it at face value.

Anyone would think you want feminists to trip up?

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 17/06/2014 20:38

AICM, do you think everyone on the internet who posts something less than 100% perfect makes their particular "group" (men, pensioners, beekeepers etc) "look stupid"?

"Anyone know the story behind this farce?"

scallopsrgreat did you not see her last word?

fingersonbuzzers · 17/06/2014 20:57

sausage party Grin

7Days · 17/06/2014 20:58

Well explain then AICM if you know, instead of whinging about feminists being shit or whatever your point is

noblegiraffe · 17/06/2014 21:09

It still looks bad to me. They got a bunch of CEOs to talk about how to get women into the board room, and the CEOs were all men? Was it deliberately an all male panel, or could they just not find any women CEOs who might have a contribution to make?

And if it was deliberately an all-male panel of powerful men talking about how to help women, then isn't that pretty bad too? Exactly hommesplaining.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 17/06/2014 21:12

AICM, since you saw no misogyny in the Elliott Rodger's crime, I am no longer surprised by anything you post.

scallopsrgreat · 17/06/2014 21:12

Yep saw that AICM. Also saw her question. Also think you were unnecessarily harsh. The responsibility of the reputation of feminists the world over is not on noblegiraffe's head. And nor can she possible make things worse (what things she is making worse is not clear).

noblegiraffe · 17/06/2014 21:12

5 men turn up to help discuss a situation

Oh gosh, give those powerful rich white men a medal. Or at least their own panel. Heaven forfend that they might have to talk on the same platform as a women.

What message is it sending?

What message does your post send?

This says that these men have no part in the solution to the problem and should go away and not get involved.
Noble G are you angry that men spoke at Feminism conference? Surly these is no better place for a man to be?

AICM · 17/06/2014 22:22

Buffy let me summarise it for you:

Thread Title: The Global Conference for women is overrun by men.
Post 1: The Global Conference for women is a farce.
Post 2: I#m shocked it is such a farce.
Post 3: This explains the actual truth.
Post 4: I like that Les Hommesplaining is a thing.

Where does post 2, as you claim, say if true?

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 17/06/2014 22:23

What's your view now on Elliott Rodgers, AICM?

AICM · 17/06/2014 22:31

He was an evil vile psychotic killer who committed an act of unspeakable awfullness.

AICM · 17/06/2014 22:34

His crime went beyond hated of women and into something far worse.

noblegiraffe · 17/06/2014 22:36

AICM, your summary is incorrect. My first post suggests that an all-male panel at the Women's Summit is a farce. If the photo didn't look so bloody ridiculous it wouldn't have been retweeted would it?

And you suggest that I'm saying that men have no place in a Women's summit. That's not true. I'm saying that sticking an all-male panel at a women's summit to discuss solving women's problems is crass. FFS the world is full of all-male panels of powerful men. The BBC has had to introduce a rule to make sure it doesn't happen on panel shows any more because it's ridiculous. Yet at a Women's Summit, presumably aiming to give women a voice, get equal representation in business, as CEOs, there's a sodding all-male panel?

It's not that there's men there talking, that's fine. It's that there's only men on that stage. At a women's summit. Talking about how they've helped out women in business, who aren't on the stage.

OP posts:
VikingVolva · 17/06/2014 22:43

Only men were invited to be on stage at that session?

Isn't that the fault of the organisers?

Who runs the Women's Summit? And as what they did here is "crass", who should they be replaced by?

noblegiraffe · 17/06/2014 23:02

Why should they be replaced? Confused

Are you going to admit that the photo looks ridiculous?

And if it does look ridiculous, why does it look ridiculous?

If a fricking Women's summit has a stage deliberately dominated by men, then what hope is there, really?

OP posts:
kickassangel · 17/06/2014 23:57

I'm pretty certain that there are some well qualified and experienced women who could provide information on the economic, social and business reasons why so many CEOs are male. They could potentially even contact some males and get statements from them about how and why their companies attempt to overcome this. They could have asked some female CEOs to give their personal stories.

Any number of ways that this didn't need to be an all make panel. A mixed panel to discuss the different perspectives could have been interesting.
