Response to fb comment re selfies

Lots of people are putting makeup free selfies on fb. I'm not much of a fb user and don't like these things but am quite incensed by a comment made by a male friend about how the recent selfies have proved that make up companies will be in business for a long time to come.

I am annoyed about why make up free selfies are such a 'thing'. There should not be such an expectation that women should always wear make up anyway. Rude comments by men about how they look without make up are unacceptable in my opinion.

I really like this person and don't want to be personally rude to them but want to let them and the many people who have 'liked' what they wrote know how awful it is to make women feel that way.

Let me know I'm being OTT if you like too.

Not OTT. His comment is just a sad indictment of the attitudes of men. I might wonder how he feels about his mother/sister/wife/daughter being measured and valued on the basis of her appearance.

I would de-friend anyone who said or liked such a comment and let them know why. Perhaps I'd give them a chance to explain themselves first.

I agree. I just took one and felt so about my appearance because it is so inferior when compared to the images of women we are so used to seeing that I couldn't post it.

I shouldn't be made to feel like that.

Far more offensive than jokey comments is women using cancer as an excuse to post self indulgent pictures of themselves. The current social media culture is so superficial, narcissistic and vapid. Women are by far the worst offenders in that area.

Everybody needs to mock them.

I've seen similar comments but the men have been joking. Do you think he said it in jest? I have also seen a couple of "cock in sock" photos and men have also joked about these photos too so I don't think there is any sexism at play.

With the exception of one photo the women posting the make-up selfies on my newsfeed have all been wearing make-up despite saying that they are not.

I don't like these campaigns because I'm not convinced that everyone is donating and if they aren't than what exactly is the point?
