Portrayal of how women are treated by men on tv

I don't know if anyone on here has been watching Coronation Street, a character called Anna is a middle aged woman who lives with her male partner who is currently in business with a man called Phelan. A recent storyline has involved him making repeated compliments and overtures towards her which she has repeatedly rejected with no encouragement whatsover. He has brushed these aside and in tonights episode was very physically threatening towards her in her own home. He also called her a 'tease' for asking him round to speak to him. Apparently spoilers in the media have claimed the two of them will be embarking on an affair. I have decided to boycott episodes in the future if this does occur. How can tv executives think that it is acceptable to show people that repeated rejections mean nothing, just keep being persistent beyond any reasonable level and women will give in.
