What's the best way to tackle this, what's the best way to teach our kids before they get to university?

My way of sorting it is illegal so i'll back off lol

I think it has to start very young, making it normal to be respectful and sensitive to other's wishes. Give them a solid base, then build on that when they get older and begin to see rape culture etc.

That's what we're trying to do with DS, though I don't know if it will work. Only time will tell.

It is disgraceful though.

Pervasive through a lot of music lyrics and videos, images and the linking of semi-nudity and loving sex with all and anyone deemed fanciable as cool.
Boys who think rape is funny, and all the rest of the sexual harrassment that goes on, girls that play into the game and laugh and mock those girls who don't. Young people valuing themselves and others by appearance and fuckability rather than as individuals who should be respected and show respect to others.
It was so sad to realise that the choice of being a braniac or a bimbo was still perceived as a divider when DD was a teenager. I was hoping we'd have evolved into a more enlightened society by now.

Should it be illegal to sell clothing which promotes rape culture?

Should it be illegal for universities and other organinsations which are there for children and young people, or any people (or funded by public money) to use promotional material that features rape culture views or people 'wearing' slogans that promote rape culture?

Just as it would be offensive to see clothing that expressed racist views.....

Wales' Cardiff Metropolitan University a poster for orientation week events featured a man wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the text: "I was raping a woman last night and she cried."

I say yes it should be illegal to all these things.

But how do we protest, who do we write to, which petition do we sign?

Legislation can only go so far, these things will still circulate. There needs to be a proper dialogue with manufacturers, designers, universities etc, as well as educating young people better. If they won't buy/wear/accept such things, then it doesn't matter if they get made (and they'll probably stop being made, since there'll be no money in it.)

Unfortunately I don't know where to start.

I think there must be precedents all over the place. Certain messages have got through to certain bits of the global community, about treating the environment with respect, about not being racist, where do we see good practice in these areas.

Part of me feels that someone who can wear a T-shirt talking about their raping someone has totally no respect for themselves. How did we get to this!

The circular argument is if they don't make those T-shirts no one can wear them.
