I support Page 3, who's with me?

This might not go down well, but I cannot accept the campaign to ban Page 3. Here's why:

There is nothing wrong with the naked female body. A woman posing with her breasts on show is not lewd nor is it harmful to children.

Hypocrisy - Page 3 is no different to male models posing shirtless in women's magazines.

Prudishness - People who claim that newspapers should be banned from showing topless women are no different to the Victorians or to people in conservative parts of the world who don't allow women to show bare legs. It's the same principle.

Market mechanisms - if there is a demand for something and a consenting adult willing to supply it, then who is the government to get in the way?

Freedom of choice - if you don't like it, don't buy the Sun!

Well, for a start we could list the differences between that article and what you normally get in a Page 3 pic...

He isn't in a 'sexual' pose, he is doing his normal everyday activities

He is treated as a person, with thoughts and feelings. A person who has achieved things in his life and is planning to achieve more.

The condition of his body has a direct correlation to his aims and achievements

The 'purpose' of the article is 'celebrity insider information' rather than sexual titillation.

This is an one-off article, not a daily repeat of 'Why someone's sexual attractiveness is the most important aspect of their existence."

She's not called Buffythe ReasonableFeminist for nothing!

SirRaymondClench · 17/01/2014 16:25

I agree with you Op.

I think we should have billboards of tits everywhere.

In fact I'm going to have a photo of mine put on a massive banner and hang it on the front of my house.

K8Middleton · 17/01/2014 16:26

Did you manage to sort out the problem your DP had where he couldn't come unless it was on your tits?

Yes, did you?

K8Middleton · 17/01/2014 16:26

( . )( . )

Excellent post amuminscotland. Sums it up beautifully.

Beth9009 · 17/01/2014 16:28

Anti P3ers, do you also want to ban this?

Since men are largely not the gender that is on the receiving end of ogling, groping, and rape, I think that adding a 'Page 4 bloke' would not make the situation in any way 'equal'.

SirRaymondClench · 17/01/2014 16:30

I might even change my name to SirRaymondTits

Beth9009 · 17/01/2014 16:31

Men not on the receiving end of ogling?

Ha, you've certainly never hung out with me and my friends then.

Men who have sexual dysfunctions like that often have them due to excessive porn consumption . Having to come on your body shows little respect for your sexual experience, he's sees you as an object to come onto not with.

slug · 17/01/2014 16:32

men grope and harass women no more than women do men That would be all those women who are currently on charges as a result of Operation Yew Tree then Hmm

I recommend a read of the everyday sexism project

AMumInScotland · 17/01/2014 16:32

We are not on the topic of banning people from buying any titllating images.

We are on the topic - chosen by you - of why having half-naked women in a daily paper that will be tomorrows chip wrapper is demeaning and indicative of unhealthy attitudes towards gender and sex.

CaptainHindsight · 17/01/2014 16:32

But why must we focus on newspapers? Open any female magazine and there are dozens photos of sexualised men.

See your own OP. Doilum.

CaptainHindsight · 17/01/2014 16:33

Ha, you've certainly never hung out with me and my friends then.

^ bet you're all a reet laugh.

You don't know what you're talking about. He doesn't 'have' to come on my body, he just finds it harder to come with PIV than with masturbation. Ideally he comes inside me, but usually it takes too long. It has nothing to do with 'respect'.

Op, are you a bot? You only seem to be engaging with about every seventh post.

I can say with some certainty that I would NEVER hang out with people who think it's ok to openly ogle or grope someone else without their consent.

Very true! Op if I might offer a practical solution, maybe you could put a few P3 on the pillows etc around you and that might help him finish off? (Maybe laminate them first?) Wink

K8Middleton · 17/01/2014 16:35

Or cut out page 3 and just stick it on your face?

CaptainHindsight · 17/01/2014 16:36

Before kids?

Hmm blimey.

CaptainHindsight · 17/01/2014 16:36

After reading through mamy of these discussions on p3 my opinion has.changed. I am all for getting it removed as it serves no purpose. However I also think that the papers that carry these images are dross.

Thants · 17/01/2014 16:37

So why not on himself why on you? Hmm

Absolutely Beth that has nothing to do with respect!
