I support Page 3, who's with me?

This might not go down well, but I cannot accept the campaign to ban Page 3. Here's why:

There is nothing wrong with the naked female body. A woman posing with her breasts on show is not lewd nor is it harmful to children.

Hypocrisy - Page 3 is no different to male models posing shirtless in women's magazines.

Prudishness - People who claim that newspapers should be banned from showing topless women are no different to the Victorians or to people in conservative parts of the world who don't allow women to show bare legs. It's the same principle.

Market mechanisms - if there is a demand for something and a consenting adult willing to supply it, then who is the government to get in the way?

Freedom of choice - if you don't like it, don't buy the Sun!

Can you tell me where they do? Where is the topless men page?

IceBeing · 17/01/2014 16:08

Cosmo isn't the sun.

THERE IS NO EQUIVALENT TO PAGE 3 FOR WOMEN TO LEER AT.

saying that some sexualized images of men can be found somewhere doesn't change that fact in the slightest.

TooOldForGlitter · 17/01/2014 16:08

I expect I will be deleted but isn’t it glaringly obvious that the OP is in fact a man pretending to be a woman in order to talk amongst the “ladies” about ishoos that might rile us all up?

CaptainHindsight · 17/01/2014 16:08

wrong link

more cock

I do realise I am being quite silly now but what about the cocks?

K8Middleton · 17/01/2014 16:09

It was a bit of back minge ackserhley, papped from behind dans la plage.

I may just post pictures of tits on this thread. OP loves 'em.

IceBeing · 17/01/2014 16:09

Men with their cocks out with captions like 'Kevin from Bristol hopes that Osbourne's economic policies are going to pay off so he can afford some new shiny sunglasses and a kitten'

AMumInScotland · 17/01/2014 16:10

OP - it's not really 'off topic' to mention your other posts, as I think your situation does have a lot of relevance to your opinions.

No children yet = hasn't been forced to consider how to raise children in a society where the prevaling attitude is unhealthy. And probably hasn't had to face the way a lot of men's attitudes to their female partners changes when their roles in the household change with parenthood.

Not having a job = not having to deal on a day-to-day basis with the effects of inequality in the workplace.

It's a lot easier to think things are ok when you spend your time with people you choose, people whose attitudes aren't too obviously different from your own.

Maybe I'm being unfair and you spend lots of time with people with different attitudes. But frankly you sound very naive if you think that sexualised imagery of women brings 'liberation' automatically in its wake.

IceBeing · 17/01/2014 16:10

I have never read the sun but thats what I imagine it is like...a bit miss world and everyone getting their tits out for world peace....

What do you think the point of this article is, if not the sexual titillation of women and gay men?

K8Middleton · 17/01/2014 16:11

This is my big cock pic to contribute.

And in the interests of equality, here's a pair of great tits.

K8Middleton · 17/01/2014 16:12

'Kevin from Bristol hopes that Osbourne's economic policies are going to pay off so he can afford some new shiny sunglasses and a kitten'

hahahaha Grin

CaptainHindsight · 17/01/2014 16:13

oooh check out this pair of great tits

IceBeing · 17/01/2014 16:13

Thats still not page 3 is it?

that would be balance for a one off article about Davina whatsername promoting her new video.

It isn't content free leering EVERY FUCKING DAY on the same page so people can find it one handed

CaptainHindsight · 17/01/2014 16:13

Great minds Mrs Cambridge, great minds Wink

Solo · 17/01/2014 16:15

Can't really say that page 3 offends me...

Solo · 17/01/2014 16:16

Wasn't there once a page 7 fella too?

Thants · 17/01/2014 16:18

Would you like to compare the amount of articles about men's bodies you get in the daily mail compared to those about women's. You will be shocked how much more focus there is on women. 10x at least.

There was once, yes.

And this is a good point. For those of you who campaign against P3, how would you feel if along side P3 there was a page 4 dedicated to shirtless men? Would that change things?

PrincessPeashooter · 17/01/2014 16:20

Just get a look at the cleavage on this

SirRaymondClench · 17/01/2014 16:21

Op in all seriousness, you're obviously so cool and openminded and I guess we could all learn so much from you in keeping our men happy.

Did you manage to sort out the problem your DP had where he couldn't come unless it was on your tits?

CaptainHindsight · 17/01/2014 16:21

No it would still be a paper for thickos.

Thants · 17/01/2014 16:21

No because men are not treated as second class sexual objects like women are,
I disagree with why sexual objectification but it is more damaging to women.

I don't like the DM and I know that they take advantage of female insecurity. Their audience is mostly female so when they do it is very different to what the Sun does. Worse, IMO.

But why must we focus on newspapers? Open any female magazine and there are dozens photos of sexualised men.

No, having page 4 bloke would not change things. That men are coming under increasing pressure to conform to a certain body type (but nowhere near the pressure that women are under) is not a positive move. How about the crazy idea of respect and equality for everyone regardless of what they look like?
