This is something like the fourth pub chat thread - please pull up a chair at the bar. Everyone welcome. Smile

Old thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/1920422-The-Feminist-Pub-continued?

But it's pretty much full so welcome in.

Buffy, I've checked with my vagina and she doesn't know how to split an MP3 file either. Sorry Sad

Benid, do you know those women? (like Kimberley?) And can you invite them on here to be our friends?

(or are they already here / us, like Buffy? Good comment, Buffy)

Non sadly I don't - I've only highlighted the debate to you lot.. however that's made me think I will send it to all my fellow bean-counters and encourage them to comment

PenguinsDontEatKale · 31/01/2014 15:08

I have submitted a comment. Not up yet, see if you can spot me Smile. This is the fringes of my area (former City lawyer) so the rubbish he spouts makes me particularly irritated.

PenguinsDontEatKale · 31/01/2014 15:09

Dusk - "energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent and able." eh? I'll take that. Smile

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 31/01/2014 15:26

PenguinsDontEatKale
That's when you wave your drink on front of the woman and say "yes, but vodka kills listeria"

PenguinsDontEatKale · 31/01/2014 15:33

PleaseJust - That's where I went wrong! All I had was tea in a very chinzy one person pot. I shall be better prepared next time.

SauceForTheGander · 31/01/2014 20:13

Well done for linking benid and there are some great posts there. I wanted a like button

PacificDogwood · 31/01/2014 20:39

Wine, please.
It's been a long day.

The Pub is always busy when I am not around

Re positive discrimination (this might actually be worth a thread in chat to canvass opinion): we will need to replace 2 colleagues in the next year or so due to retirement. We will 'need' a man because people like to have a choice for intimate issues which 'flavour' of dr they see - fair enuff IMO. We can of course not advertise thus but this will be one of the criteria. Hm. I am not sure who I feel about all this.

Vodka kills listeria Grin. Ture fact. I know. Yy re pregnant women somehow becoming public property Hmm

kickassangel · 31/01/2014 20:50

When I was pregnant I felt like I seemed to cease to exist, to the point that at 8 months someone asked if I was male or female and I said 'pregnant' cos i's stopped feeling like a person. But then I had a particularly bad case of depression and really wasn't sure how human I was anyway.

You see that article, is exactly the kind of thing I would love to do a dialogue analysis on. Maybe it's my positive discrimination, but I am fairly sure there is a certain style of language use which is part of the whole mansplaining thing.

My opinion is that it would be unfair on patients (and potentially compromise their care) not to offer them a doctor of the same sex if you can

yes - this is one of those things that works both ways round. Perhaps a GP practice should be allowed to specify that for gender balance reasons a male/female is required at this time, if all the other doctors are female/male. Saves wasting applicants time or being downcast by failing to get a job they think would fit them.

I write software but have competent IT guys to ask 'techie' stuff!

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 31/01/2014 21:22

I can be a bit techie! What do you need? I promise not to ask DH
