This is something like the fourth pub chat thread - please pull up a chair at the bar. Everyone welcome. Smile

Old thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/1920422-The-Feminist-Pub-continued?

But it's pretty much full so welcome in.

Well, we're not allowed - but I agree I think there ought to be a chance to self-select to whatever dr anybody would prefer (some men prefer to see a 'lady dr' Grin with their embarrassing problem - apart from the odd creep, I think that some men prefer not to feel that the male dr might be making some kind of comparison - I think).

No techie help as ever - sorry.

I found being pregnant very exciting and loved - would happily be pregnant again, as long as nobody forced me to take the subsequest baby home Wink.
I sometimes ponder why I have such a fondness for my pregnancies, what with recurring MCs, induction, emCS at 31 weeks, bone marrow failure, SPD going on - NOT all in the same pregnancy I hasten to add.

Rasmus is/was an arse. But yy a male entitled arse.
I find the boss person (?Hans) interesting - he seems to kind of serenely float about and make pertinent pronouncements from time to time.

PenguinsDontEatKale · 31/01/2014 21:57

I don't mind being pregnant as such. But I do find other people's questions somewhat intrusive, even if well meant. I will hate the last few weeks though and am thankful this will be my last pregnancy (provided we find bullet proof contraceptionBlush ).

PenguinsDontEatKale · 31/01/2014 22:01

I agree people should have a choice of gp. Not aware of any aspect of the equality act that would allow an exemption though. Personally I don't much mind, but particularly with certain histories, or even just embarrassment, not having those options could compromise care.

There are situations when there simply is no choice (emergency situations and such like), but yy I know I like a choice and it seems particularly appropriate for vulnerable people.

PacificDogwood · 31/01/2014 22:06

Told you I am not technically minded

UptoapointLordCopper · 31/01/2014 22:11

Hans' relationship with Saga is interesting. He seems to accept her as she is, and she seems to trust him enough to tell him what she thinks. I rather like that relationship. Or did I miss anything?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 31/01/2014 22:13

I think both the boss people (Lilian and Hans) are Serene Floaters.

PacificDogwood · 31/01/2014 22:14

Oh yes, Lilian, I like her scarf a lot. The green one

ErrolTheDragon · 31/01/2014 22:24

Buffy, a quick google suggests there are quite a few ways to split an mp3 if it contains multiple tracks - does yours or is it just one track?

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 31/01/2014 22:39

Do you want to split it as in you want to isolate a portion of the track to keep as a standalone audio file, or is it too big to transport and you need to do it in pieces and then put it back together?

For the first you want a nifty little freeware program called Audacity, if there is not software on the mac already which does this which I think there possibly may be.

For the second you want a utility which will allow you to create a .rar file with parts. I know winRar works on Windows. 7zip possibly?

legoplayingmumsunite · 31/01/2014 23:53

You are strange. Being pregnant is hideous, although I quite liked everyone chatting to me about being pregnant. I'm even stranger though, I love the drama of labour and would quite happily give birth again if only I didn't have to have 9 months of pregnancy first. Ugh.

You're all making me want to watch The Bridge now but I'm watching my Christmas DVDs of The Good Wife and loving that (although I notice most of the new characters in series 2 are male, tut tut!). am slightly torn now about whether I should watch series 5 as it's shown on More 4 though or if I should rush through the DVDs and then catch up so I don't see any spoilers.

Well you'll want one or the other, not both. Which do you want to do?

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 01/02/2014 13:29

Oh it should, because it's not just compressing it which will take it down by about 20% but it can also split it into parts which means you can send each part separately but the recipient will need all 3 .rar parts to un-rar it. I can't really explain it more easily than that but you will end up with 3 files called something like "talk.part1.rar" "talk.part2.rar" "talk.part3.rar". With a program that supports multi-part rar files they can just ask the program to uncompress part 1 and it will automatically do the rest as well and put the file back together.

Alternatively you may be able to reduce the quality with Audacity but that might not be something you want to do.

RAR Expander looks like the tool you want for Mac.

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 01/02/2014 13:31

Well, it probably would have been a better explanation with punctuation Hmm

If you know someone who ever downloads software or films it's a common technique used to get around file size limits on filesharing websites.

Can I just say that I say "RARRRRGH" in my head every time I see .rar?

PenguinsDontEatKale · 01/02/2014 20:22

Random vaguely feminist question:

Does anyone have any recommendations for decent children's bedding? DD1 is into dinosaurs, space, possibly butterflies, jungle animals, etc.

She is not into pale pink or lilac or navy blue or khaki.

I am after something decent quality but not ££££. So far have one possibility at John Lewis and losing heart somewhat.

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 01/02/2014 20:23

Haha Grin at Raaaaar!

Penguins I've got some nice stuff for DS at Next before. Also bought adult/double bedding and it was soft and nice quality.

They are very pink/blue but if you look in the boy's section you often get some nice colourful dinosaurs/ship type themes etc. Girls' is very butterflies and flowers.

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 01/02/2014 20:28

They have some nice horse themed ones in yellow in the girls' section and colourful birds. There's also a woodland one but it's very pink and pastelly.

They also have some nice starred bedding in the boy's section, not the first one but the ones further along. Pale blue with colourful dinosaurs, too.

I especially like their sheets because they have interesting patterned ones rather than plain colours. But you do really have to dig through some horrible segregated/stereotypical shite.

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 01/02/2014 20:30

They also have some nice colours in their adults' bedding but it's more geometric rather than having designs on, although there's a butterfly one.

PenguinsDontEatKale · 01/02/2014 20:31

Thanks. Just had a quick look. She might like some of the girls ones - the yellow daisies are nice and she loves yellow. I quite like the pirate ones too, but I just know she will pick up on (as far as I can tell from the picture) all the pirates being boys and the background being blue and therefore be put off.

But there are some less vomitously pink options on there, which is a good start. I'll be fine with DD2, she loves all that is pink and frilly...

PenguinsDontEatKale · 01/02/2014 20:32

Didn't think of looking in adult ranges for butterflies, etc. Good point. Thanks!
