This is something like the fourth pub chat thread - please pull up a chair at the bar. Everyone welcome. Smile

Old thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/1920422-The-Feminist-Pub-continued?

But it's pretty much full so welcome in.

IIRC orgasms are good for relieving period pains wink

Actually giving birth has completely stopped all period pain. Bizarrre huh. Same thing happened to my Mum.

I'm reading the Mitford sister letters which is fascinating (and definitely passes the Bechdel Test).

I'm up Grin.
Not sure how well my feminism is working this time of day though Wink[yawn]

TheDoctrineOf2014 · 19/01/2014 09:23

Still in bed, contemplating getting up!

I saw that thread, Buffy. It is like banging your head against a wall. Do you mind if I answer your question here as it feels safer in this pub?

PacificDogwood · 19/01/2014 09:42
Grin I just did my bit on your thread, but now need a double espresso please!

I think of course you can be a radical feminist and shave your legs. You know why you are doing it so you're not pretending anything, plus you are only human like everyone in the world. It is as simple as that for me.

I don't think you'll get consensus on the other thread what with SM and B agreeing Shock

It's going a bit better now I think.
I get what you mean and I don't disagree, but I think it is a matter of 'picking your battles'.
I say this in all my hairy glory which IS an expression of my slovenliness and NOT a feminist statement Grin.

I find that, if there is a thread with Bonsoir on it, I almost always utterly disagree with her. And have been shouted down a fair few times.

I am afraid I am not touching that one with a barge pole!

And I'll have you know I was out with the kids, not in bed.

PacificDogwood · 19/01/2014 11:32

We believe you, Penguins Grin.

I am MNing watching Jurassic Parc II with DS2 and eating popcorn.

Not naming names Wink, but it is interesting how I disagree with certain posters whether they post in FMW, Style&Beauty or Relationships (you should see her advice there!!. Some people have such diametrically opinions from mine that it gives us little to even debate. Which is quite sad.

PenguinsDontEatKale · 19/01/2014 11:35

I was . We've been swimming and back. Grin

Yes, I am not saying any poster isn't utterly entitled to their views. There are just some (not anyone I'd specifically name) where I always seem so far apart from them that engaging in discussion doesn't really move either of us forward. You need some common ground really to have a good debate.

PacificDogwood · 19/01/2014 11:47

You are a better woman than me (?I Confused) - I am still in my nightie, snuggled under a blanket on the sofa

Is Jurassic Park II suitable viewing for an almost 4 year old?? DS4 is watching on and off (wanders in and out of room) and hiding behind the sofa. Nightmares, here we come - aka The Curse Of Older Siblings.

Yes, I love debate, but you need to have people who are at least prepared to listen to another point of view. I had similar problems with Xenia Grin although some aspects of our lives sounded v similar, I just could not engage with her way of thinking.

It's the not so stealth boasting that makes me want to bite my monitor.

Ah well, we all do feminism wrong.

Good to know

Your thread is fabulous, Buffy Grin Unfortunately I've been at church (probably reinforcing the patriarchy much more than your shaven legs do) so only just saw it.

The accusations of slovenliness (guilty as charged, m'Lud) are particularly amusing.

kickassangel · 19/01/2014 14:27

Oh I totally love posters like Binsoir and Xenia. Not that I agree or wish to engage with them, but cos I just love seeing a broad rage of views to keep my mind open. I also really like seeing people who have no fear in saying whatever they think.

Not sure how I would react to them in real life.
Btw still in bed at 9.30. No one else awake so I refuse to get up and tidy.

PacificDogwood · 19/01/2014 14:32

Can we talk about HD eyebrows? Why, jus why??
Why would anybody want to follow any trend at any cost?

I understand how it is v important for teenagers to feel 'not different' to their peers and as they grow up want to be 'very different' to those in authority and then eventually find a place where they are comfortable (either conforming, or not conforming, or somewhere in between).
But I despair at seeing how uncomfortable more and more young girls in particular seem to be with their unaltered face Confused. Why?
