This is something like the fourth pub chat thread - please pull up a chair at the bar. Everyone welcome. Smile

Old thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/1920422-The-Feminist-Pub-continued?

But it's pretty much full so welcome in.

The book is very different, pacific. Whole different feeling about it, and more, erm political maybe, than the film - which centres on the love story.

Enjoy. Though I must say I like the Sorkin years better.

Night all.

I love both the English Patient and WW. Blush

Maybe I am repressed (it's unlikely).

It does however annoy me, the more I watch WW, that although it makes it clear Donna kicks arse, and that she stands up to Josh quite a bit, she does still end up with a man who is capable of flying round the world to see her when she's hurt and then, apparently, totally forgetting he might have a thing for her when she goes back to work for him.

No one is that focussed on work or that gauche.

Erk.

I don't think I spoilered anything if your on season 6 there, but sorry, I didn't see you were watching for the first time when I posted. Blush

I mean, she goes back after Gaza - she doesn't stay with sexy Lucius Malfoy journalist bloke. Even though Josh promptly reverts to oblivious.

Mmm. I thought at the time they might spin it out more, make Irish into a proper character. But then I was watching as it came out and IIRC there was a rumour that Janel Malony might be leaving.

I'm afraid you're already spoilered on that one!

(Btw, I only figured out the Lucius Malfoy thing from a MN thread three days ago.)

I think the point with the bodily fluids is exactly the old mans piss analogy, menstral blood is seen as more disgusting than any other. Don't have a problem tasting it (I'm a scientist, I have friends who have drunk their own piss to prove it's sterile when fresh) but no way am I having sex when it's my period - what would the cleaners say when they changed the sheets???

TheDoctrineOf2014 · 18/01/2014 08:25

Lego, if you had a nosebleed in bed, would you still worry about the cleaners changing the sheets?

legoplayingmumsunite · 18/01/2014 11:32

Well, ignoring the cleaner issue I wouldn't want to do something that deliberately made the sheets dirty and stained because it's more work to clean. So I wouldn't be bothered about the blood stain if my period started in bed or a nose bleed but I wouldn't have sex when it's my period because I know that would make the sheets dirty. And when I was young and randy I had horrendous period pain anyway so sex was never uppermost on my mind then anyway. And now DH and I would rather sleep. Roll on DC3 understanding what STTN means!

UptoapointLordCopper · 18/01/2014 13:55

Certainly some of DC2's pillowcases are blood-stained from a phase of nosebleeds... And one of my sheets is blood-stained from, er, giving birth to DC2. There is a theme in this - always blame DC2.

PacificDogwood · 18/01/2014 14:07

Warning: Dunces' alert.

I just, this very minute got the Lucius Malfoy thing Shock
Never noticed before.

Nope, I am not in the least disgusted by menstruation (which is only v partially blood btw) and don't see the problem with sex during periods (old towel underneath Wink), but maintain my right to not taste it, thanks Grin.

And yy social conditioning re horriblenss of wee depending on source is interesting, isn't it?

BelleCurve · 18/01/2014 14:34

IIRC orgasms are good for relieving period pains Wink

UptoapointLordCopper · 18/01/2014 15:53

How has the conversation taken this turn? Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 18/01/2014 19:29

I have finished reading Lavinia and the newspaper. What should I read next between now and The Bridge?

PacificDogwood · 18/01/2014 20:05

Not Greer apparently Grin

PenguinsDontEatKale · 18/01/2014 20:13

Sorry. I think I started the downward Greer spiral Blush

UptoapointLordCopper · 18/01/2014 20:24

No, not Greer, not at the moment. Grin Gladys Mitchell.
