Question about Bechdel test - girls

Since learning of the Bechdel test, bechdeltest.com/ I tend to do this with most things I watch.
On the discussion part of the site, however, a few posters were arguing whether two girls (as in little girls, children) "counted." One was arguing along the lines of "they're females aren't they, of course they count," but I'm not so sure. They're not women...
Can anyone help me clarify my view on this?

I would agree with Carol's general point.

However, if trying to look at a single film, I suppose I would say that it would, for me, pass the Bechdel test if the main characters (of both sexes) are children. However, the mere fact that two girls who are minor characters briefly mentioned a toy or something wouldn't for me 'count' as a pass in a film that otherwise failed. Because the test is meant to illustrate the absence of a female 'voice' in films at a very basic level expect as love interest, and I don't think a couple of children talking is really passing that threshold.

Are they named characters? That's one of the points as well.

For god's sake forget the details - the test was an example of lack of female representation in films.
Do the films represent women in decent roles or as love interest/support?
