Interesting.

I think it's spot on.

A man at work recently told my manager (his superior ffs) to 'stop getting so emotional' when she pulled him up on something.

I was horrified and asked her to make an official complaint but she brushed it off until I pointed out that he wouldn't have spoken to a man like that. I was actually furious with him, this was said loudly in front of a room of people.

Interestingly she gave him a stern talking to about it (privately) and he broke down into tears. So who was the emotional one?

"emotional" is always code for "women" in this context. There are plenty of emotions which it is considered macho to express at work, anger, passion, greed.

Likewise, hormomal. Too much testosterone never labels anyone "hormonal"

Yep, I (the only woman) got told I was the emotional one in the team. (Yeah, it's because I'm not quite dead inside like the rest of them...) No, I actually voice my opinion and give input when it's requested, which means they know what I think. It is acknowledged that if you ask for responses, I'm the only one you can guarantee will reply. I think not replying because they just can't be bothered isn't being non-emotional, it's being disengaged.

And am I the one who has got so wound up in a team meeting that I swore in a team meeting? No. That was a man.

I circulated this link at work. Women were going on about how true it was. My manager said, "Interesting. Of course, it's not just women who get perceived differently for the same behaviours." Annoyingly, it was right at the end of the day, and I couldn't stay to argue the point, as I had to be out to meet some people dead on time.

That is brilliant
