Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Let's not expose the nation to a wrinkle on prime time TV - I don't think we would cope.

My 16 year old dd has been a fan of Cher since she was little, she thinks her voice is very distinctive. She has really been looking forward to Cher's appearance on the X Factor tonight. As soon as Cher came on, looking about 25 (and dressed in conventional starlet mini skirt), dd looked very surprised and asked shouldn't she be aged about 70 by now?

Yes, she is, but God forbid she should ppear on TV, one of the most successful, critically acclaimed, wealthy, experienced international singers of the last 40 years, and expect everyone to admire her simply for yet another talented performance. Of course, she must pretend to be under 30 and still shaggable as well.

I hear Paul McCartney has a new single out too - will he be appearing in tight ftting t-shirt, his face heavily made up and ironed out and not a grey hair in sight?? Hmm

I believe he does dye his hair..yes..

(got a lot of stick for doing it too, if I remember correctly)

He hasn't had masses of plastic surgery to make him look vaguely similar to how he looked in 1964 though has he.

It must be absolutely exhausting. Such hard work.

CakeBotherer · 13/10/2013 21:09

Maybe if they took fuddy duddy old Brucie of that BBC show, there would be enough wrinkles to go around everyone else.

rutters1 · 14/10/2013 22:29

@BBE

'It must be absolutely exhausting. Such hard work.'

What, plastic surgery?

SinisterSal · 14/10/2013 22:32

Yeah, and the rest.

Gym, diet, beauty treatments, surgery. yeah, must be exhausting, time consuming and expensive

I went to see Oblivion with Tom Cruise in and even though he still looked good his wife looked like his daughter why couldn't they cast an older woman to play the part! Women don't turn into repulsive old crows once they are over 30 ffs! We all get older why is it ok to see an older man but not a woman?

Anniegetyourgun · 15/10/2013 17:24

Unlike McCartney, at least Cher can (still) sing.

BasilBabyEater · 15/10/2013 17:33

Well that's true tbh.

McCartney was perfectly dreadful at the Olympics wasn't he?

It was really quite uncomfortable watching / listening to it.

Darkesteyes · 15/10/2013 22:30

sonlypuppyfat You will probably find this an interesting read.

That was really interesting Darkesteyes thank you do they all think we are stupid, it just makes a film so unbelievable doesn't it. I watch a lot of movies and it winds me up a treat.

TheDoctrineOfSpike · 15/10/2013 23:47

That's a great set of graphs.

TheDoctrineOfSpike · 16/10/2013 08:38

Oh, a new comedy about a couple with a nearly 30 year age gap. Guess who's the older one?

I love ASH but c'mon

YoniMatopoeia · 16/10/2013 09:02

Gread link Darkest

It gives me yet another reason to like Tom Hanks.

(I am now hoping that nobody is going to link to something that shows me that he is actually a misogynistic wanker)

TheDoctrineOfSpike · 16/10/2013 09:43

Tom Hanks's wife was born the same year he was. I wonder if there's any correlation between RL romance and screen spouse ages.
