The first case involved twins with anencephaly and in the second the foetus didn't even have a skull.

How can the Northern Irish government let cases like this continue. I find it horrifying that in the UK in 2013 these women were supposed to endure horrific pregnancies of unviable foetuses and probable stillbirths just because of religious ideology. The sheer cruelty of religion sometimes beggars belief.

They scan you every two weeks until they confirm that that foetus has died in the womb and then bring you in to induce you.

That is fucking barbaric.

I think it's revolting that this is happening in the UK.

We have threads about similar in other parts of the world and everyone agrees it's terrible (which it is) BUT people too often forget that this is happening in the UK right now.

How awful.

This also happens in the Isle of Man, sort of. Although abortion is illegal except for very strict conditions (which I'm afraid I don't know, I think it's only when death of the mother/foetus is very likely) in practical terms you get referred to a hospital in Liverpool for the procedure and you're covered by the English rules. I found this out when I got a poor Nuchal test and was debating an amniocentesis.

I realised that I remembered when this law was being debated 20 years ago when I was at high school. The local politician who came to visit our school at around the same time wished he hadn't! Silly old fart. But it's people like him who got to decide what we do with our bodies, and I bet it wouldn't be any different today.

I hate being pregnant, hate it. The only thing that makes it even mildly bearable... is hoping that I will have a (healthy) baby at the end of it.

Having to suffer it and give birth to a child to watch them die for someone else's idea of morality would make me suicidal and I don't say that lightly.. I absolutely mean it.

Roll on science making men capable of pregnancy and the immediate change in all abortion laws

I wonder what the laws are in NI regarding letting a patient that is brain dead off life support as surely that's the exact same thing in the second scenario?

Actually why even waste NHS money on a 20 week scan if you can't do anything with the information but upset pregnant women?

In the meantime can you give anything to help a woman travel to England or elsewhere in the EU? Or provide a bed for the night?

And while we are bashing abortion (lack of rights) there is no medical reason for a woman to have to have 2 consecutive visits to a clinic.

There is no reason at all, other than to make life hard for her.

Please don't be complacent if you are in England, there are people trying to chip away at this all the time here.

It's horrific, who do these people think they are? Telling women they HAVE to carry to term or wait for their baby to die a natural death. The amount of trauma this causes...but of course they don't care about that, because us women are just incubators. Heaven forbid we actually make decisions about our own bodies
