DP and I have been watching it for the first time on 4OD. The thing that really strikes me about it is that while it's a comedy sci-fi show, it also frequently covers the subject of rape and does it well.
Examples (don't read if you don't like spoilers):
-Alisha has the ability to make anyone uncontrollably want to have sex with her, rather than it being something she can control it makes men rather rapey.
- She used this power to get Curtis to have sex with her which he called rape.
- Rudy took advantage of Curtis when he was a woman and off his face - everyone told him that was a rapey thing to do.
- In the episode where Rudy's penis was going to fall off because he treated a woman like crap he went back to the scene of the crime and suggested that he should just have sex with her while she was asleep - Simon had to tell him that would be rape.
I really like that they've done this because I've been raped twice and I doubt that any of the men considers himself a rapist. Well, I think the first time I might have been roofied. From what I've been told about that night quite a few men took advantage of the state I was in. The man who roofied me might consider himself a rapist but the other men would not if they didn't know I'd been drugged for the purpose of rape.
The other case was when a friend I was out clubbing with decided to go back with a couple of guys. I was worried about what might happen to her if she went alone so I went with her. I went to the toilet and when I was trying to go back I got forced back into the bathroom by one of the men. I tried to fight him off but I couldn't. I realised pretty quickly that he wasn't taking no for an answer and I decided to consent in the hope that I could at least get him to wear a condom. The sleaze bag was an A&E doctor and we were in the nurses residences for his hospital. I'm sure he has no idea that he's a rapist.
