T SHIRTS - ANYONE GOT ANY ADVICE

Sorry if this is a long story.

I am on the committee for our local village gala and run the charity dog show. Last year a guy (aged about 40) was helping set up and had brought his children with him, 2 girls. Anyway, he was wearing a vile t shirt with the slogan 'nice legs, what time do they open' on it. My DH noticed it first and when he pointed it out to me I walked away and my DH went over to the guy and pointed out why the t shirt is inappropriate. The following night at the dinner and dance his wife came over trying to physically attack me (she was drunk) calling me stupid and much worse. I told her in no uncertain terms to go away. She was legless.

This year, she was there at the night dance again. Though she didn't actually say anything to me she brought loads of mates with her who intimidated me the whole night by going out of their way to make eye contact with me, though I did avoid it, and looked very threatening.

I know I must sound like an idiot but I now want to leave the committee but I don't know the best way to resign and not sure how to make my point. Can anyone help with any advice. I live in a really small village. Apparently, this 'woman' is well known as a bully in the village - as is all her family. The thing that really pissed me off this year is that the chairman of the committee actually congratulated her and her friends for wearing fancy dress over the mike!

Don't leave the committee!
Have a word with the chairman of the committee about their behaviour, don't leave the committee for a group of thugs!
Do you see her at any other point than at a once-a-year dance?
If you feel physically threatened, I would call the police to log your concerns.
Please don't let nasty childish wankers chase you away from something you enjoy.

Bronx - I so know you are right but I find it really difficult. I never see her or her family the rest of the year. We have a meeting mid sept so I will let you know how I get on with the chairman. He is a policeman by the way!
