FFS. Misogyny and double standards can be taken as read in cases like these - they are the attributes of the caveman - but what has got to me is how fucking stupid this man is. He has zero biological and physiological knowledge and clearly, an IQ smaller than his shoe size.

For God's sake he shouldn't be running education, he should be in kindergarten, the ignorant twat.

That is appalling and ridiculous. However, I am also pretty cross that the Guardian reported the whole thing as if an 'intact hymen' is a totally valid medical term to describe the anatomy of a woman who hasn't had sex. Yeah, right. Hmm

scallopsrgreat · 21/08/2013 19:08

Dear God!!

Yep the whole hymen as a barrier thing is all a bit of a myth I think. So not sure the sexual assaulters doctors would even test for this. How is this test for their own good? How is it going to give them the right to be free of prostitution? Just another fucking excuse to oppress women in a traumatic and invasive manner.

yes, well, what do you expect in places like that run by people like that?

scallopsrgreat · 22/08/2013 14:58

Women to be treated as human being with feelings and all? These women don't have a choice about where they live. Saying well "what do you expect" is very dissmissive of their reality.

These women clearly expect more and so should we. Otherwise nothing will change.

OctopusPete8 · 22/08/2013 15:41

Why are they doing these tests?? like before marriage or something?

LRDPomogiMnyeSRabotoi · 22/08/2013 15:45

It says why in the article.

It's just exceptionally stupid and horrible.

sooperdooper · 22/08/2013 15:49

How utterly ridiculous, and I'm very surprised and annoyed that the Guardian didn't include some kind of quote from a doctor to confirm that the whole unbroken hymen concept is wrong anyway as it can be broken during exersise or just as a normal thing that happens as you grow up

GrimmaTheNome · 22/08/2013 15:54

So having an intact hymen or not affects a girl's ability to study how exactly?Confused

At the end of the piece #' in the shariah-law province of Aceh, women have been ordered to sit side-saddle on motorbikes in order to better obscure the "curves of a woman's body".' Well never mind that she's more likely to fall off, just so long as men are protected from her provocative curves. HmmAngry

Auntfini · 22/08/2013 15:58

I thought that the whole hymen thing was a myth. So how is he planning to do this?

Blu · 22/08/2013 16:00

Chilling.

Apart from anything else I don't understand the mentality of preserving women's modesty / chastity etc by forcing them to expose their vaginas to strangers.

Do these men in power really want their own teenage daughters treated like this?

grimbletart · 22/08/2013 16:51

Do these men in power really want their own teenage daughters treated like this?

Probably. In their mistaken and ignorant view, it's ensuring the integrity of their property isn't it?

i would imagine so.
In fact their own daughters better have an intact hymen. Their daughters aren't whores, you know. Hmm
