I know/knew nothing about her (other than she is an author) but heard her on desert island discs this morning and thought she was brilliant. Posting here as she talks about her sexuality/feminism very openly and her perspective on the writing of crime novels as a woman. Very interesting :)

I've met her a few times and she's a really nice person too!

WowOoo · 19/07/2013 13:16

Will listen to that later, thanks.
I've read a lot of her stuff.

I love did for the surprise aspect,i don't necessarily need to know/ like the person
Most folk have a good story and good records to share

BasilBabyEater · 20/07/2013 08:51

She was one of the most interesting subjects they've had for a while.

Also chose an interesting selection of music I thought. Obviously real, not chosen by a PR consultant. Wink

funnyossity · 20/07/2013 08:53

Yes I was glad to hear a bit of Bruce Springsteen!

Her story is interesting and showed up to me how bland/from similar backgrounds so many people in the public eye are nowadays.

heard a little bit of the Russell Brand by accident this morning and was disappointed in his tackling of the Sachs thing. He's very "clever" about it but still doesn't really get why it made him a vile little shit. It was one of those "I'm sorry you are offended" type of weasel apologies. I'm surprised as I think he is quite a thinker - but perhaps not able to think about himself. But only heard a very short snippet while on the way to do something else so maybe the rest was good.

BasilBabyEater · 26/07/2013 19:53

He failed to deal with the sexism angle, didn't he Quangle.

Because like most men, he simply doesn't see it as an issue.

Ooh, I'll listen to that in a bit, I love Val McDermott. I think hers were the first proper crime books (the Kate Brannigan series) that I read that had a strong female character.
