The headline states that the government intends to save money by slashing prison places for teenage girls. Cue a comments section full of 'Yes, well we can't upset the pretty little thugs can we?', 'Equal rights should work both ways', 'The feminists will be up in arms about this! Oh wait... deafening silence.' and 'Oh well, boys and men don't matter in this country do they?'

But in actual fact, the article explains that 41 prison places for girls will be scrapped, and 300 places for boys. So there is no female-bias whatsoever, there's actually a male bias!

The DM is such a scum site.

Yes, I agree with you that the headline is misleading to an extent. However, in percentage terms, there are an awful lot more places for women being scrapped.

You forget that there are very different numbers of men and women currently in prison. So, scrapping 41 places is actually a huge reduction.

The article refers to teenagers, so I presume that we're talking about young offenders here. At the end of March there were 202 women young offenders in prison and 6,361 men young offenders.

The figures given mean there is a reduction of 20% in places for women but only a 5% reduction in places for men.

Stop reading DM articles then. They thrive by publishing linkbait articles, then enjoying the pageviews (and advertising revenue) that they draw in.
