(Excuse me for being sleep deprived and stupid) that's awful, right? The republicans have just trodden all over her on technicalities?

I am so glad I moved back to the UK...

kelda · 26/06/2013 06:36

So she did it, but they voted anyway?

5madthings · 26/06/2013 06:42

What the actual fuck this has to be contested surely?

SconeRhymesWithGone · 26/06/2013 06:44

The republicans have just trodden all over her on technicalities?

Yes, indeed. No surprise there.

But I am so glad I stayed up to watch it. It was very inspiring. Some very brave and feisty women (and a few good men.)

Not all is lost, I hope. I am certain that this law will be challenged in the courts. It creates such a heavy burden on the rights set out in Roe v. Wade, which ironically enough, came out of Texas.

Now to bed. I'll catch up in the morning.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 26/06/2013 06:48

Pretty much, yes, and then they've gone and voted after midnight.

Good summary here:

Texas Tribune liveblog - also worth noting that some Democrats said that they didn't realise the vote was even called, due to gallery noise. So they were holding their arms out to show the time to the gallery (i.e., 12:02), not voting. Not sure if that's credible but the whole thing is a total shambles.

5madthings · 26/06/2013 06:49

The debate is now if the vote was called before mudnight?

And yes it will be challenged, so how can we support the challenge? I for one will be sharing on fb, signing petitions anythung and why is this not in mainstream news?

bouncychair · 26/06/2013 06:52

Being reported on the guardian website

5madthings · 26/06/2013 07:02

I like that president obama tweeted his support for wendy :)

Still reading and it sounds a bit of a shambles at the end and reports are conflicting that it has been passed or that it wont stand?

MrsLyman · 26/06/2013 07:02

Morning, just heard this mentioned on 5live they said it was unclear if the vote went ahead. Be interesting to see how this will develop.

5madthings · 26/06/2013 07:07

Yep it seems unclear if the vote counts/was legal. The guardian says the same.

GibberTheMonkey · 26/06/2013 07:11

What's the betting they claim it all unfair and make her do it again

OddBoots · 26/06/2013 07:12

I'm shocked at the blatant rule breaking, they've changed the official time stamp!

twitter link

How can they do that and retain any reputation as a democratic nation when people all over the world could see it happening?!

OddBoots · 26/06/2013 07:16

full information link

MmeLindor · 26/06/2013 07:25

Can't believe they changed the timestamp. Don't they know that thousands of people around the world were watching?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 26/06/2013 07:27

Just seen this, was asleep while it happened.

The actual timestamp is all over Twitter as 1202.

There's no way they are going to get away with it.

GibberTheMonkey · 26/06/2013 07:31

They forget that the rest of us reached this century.
One of information and technology.
Not quite where they got left behind but it's quite a way back

OddBoots · 26/06/2013 07:33

I wish I could say there is no way they will get away with it but these are some of the most privileged and powerful men, they are used to getting their own way.

It is certainly a timestamp of another sort though, this may well mark the official time that the USA stopped being a democracy.

Tee2072 · 26/06/2013 07:37

They won't get their own way this time. The whole world is watching. It will be overturned by SCOTUS, if necessary.

It may take some time. There may be damage to the women of Texas before it unwinds. But the time for Old White Men To Win Is Over.

msrisotto · 26/06/2013 07:40

Wow this doesn't look good! So much for land of the free. If you don't like the outcome, just change it! Simples. Politicians are fucking corrupt, who would have thought!

msrisotto · 26/06/2013 07:41

I wonder if Obama will step in? He should, it's a travesty and mockery of the system.

MmeLindor · 26/06/2013 07:42

Can't believe they changed the time stamp. Nincompoops.

OP posts:
tribpot · 26/06/2013 07:44

There's some poor sod who runs their website who is feeling like utter crap right now. Tampering with an official record?

I see that the Texas Senate Clock now has its own Twitter feed. It doesn't seem happy to be overruled on matters of 'telling time' Grin

What a complete disgrace.

5madthings · 26/06/2013 07:47

Has there been an official statement released by amyone?
