First time posting in here. Please be gentle...

I need recommendations for books about feminist theory.

I've kind of picked up what I believe along the way from a girls grammar school/ redbrick university social sciences dept / working life but I realise I have no theoretical backing for what I think & do.

Any recommendations for where to start?

Hi,
Feminist Thought by Rosemarie Tong is a great intro to all the major ideas and theories from liberal, radical, socialist, psychoanalytical, existentialist, post modern and marxist feminism. It's a great place to start, is very well written and is fairly unbiased.

Mini - as a starter: Feminist Theory: From Margin to Centre by bell hooks

Also:

Reel to Real: Race, Sex and Class at the Movies (Routledge Classics)
by bell hooks

Ain't I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism (Pluto Classics)
by bell hooks

Communion: The Female Search for Love by bell hooks

The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love by bell hooks

All About Love: New Visions: bell hooks

[loves bell hooks, I do]

Women, Culture and Politics
by Angela Davis

The Womanist Reader: The First Quarter Century of Womanist Thought

Not a book but this feminist theory crash course is a good research starting point.

Thank you. I'm just listening to Bell Hooks here while I'm working. I think I'll get on with her writing.

I have just ordered Beyond Honour by Tahira Khan which is a historical materialist explanation of honour related violence and FGM.
