Hi - I am a mum of 3 and have been made aware of something frightening on Facebook.

I have come on here hoping to inform as many parents as possible in the hope that you care enough to help in our campaign to have Facebook change their policies get some very seedy and disturbing pages removed.

Similar to the recent news you may have read about portrayals of rape and degradation of women that Facebook claim to now be taking action on, there are also numerous pages where perverted indivisduals are publicly sharing pictures of very young girls (and some pages also young boys) specifically for the purposes of sexual gratification! Facebook don't seem to be doing anything about them.

We have started a Facebook Group called Facebooks Blind Eye and would appreciate it anyone who wants to be sure that children are not being exploited and perved over on Facebook, could please click on the link and join.

We have tried reporting pages to Facebook and they don't do anything. We want get as many people as possible to contact advertisers and make them aware of what is going on so they can pressurise Facebook to put a stop to this dispicable activity.

We have managed to get through to a few companies but so far they don't seem to getting the point, for example Nissan have replied to us, however unfortuantely they don't seem to understand it's not the same issue as the one reported last week in the media.

It's going to take more than just a few people to put enough pressure on Facebook to sort this out - we need more concerned parents to contact companies advertising on Facebook and tell them that we don't want to see them advertising on a service that does nothing to stop what is basically very sneaky, totally public, unpoliced child porn!

We need support from more parents to get this kind of filth off Facebook once and for all because without help from more people, it feels like we're going to get nowhere. Please help us put this right - surely we can't be the only parents disgusted by this.

Any suggestions of where to go from here are much appreciated.

Thanks for reading

Pages featuring child abuse are already regulated.

They need to be reported to the Internet Watch Foundation which will take action.

alexblue · 02/06/2013 12:58

Thanks but the link you give doesn't solve the problem - we should not have to rely on decent people spotting pages and reporting them - Facebook should not be allowing them in the first place!

How would that be achieved?

According to DigitalBuzz, every 20 minutes, 1 million links are shared, 2 million friend requests processed and 3 million messages sent. Are you really suggesting there is a way to screen and pre-moderate that volume of traffic?

alexblue · 02/06/2013 14:10

I am sure there are ways to screen out lewd comments and certainly Facebook could easily stop suggestive page titles if they wanted to - but they don't! We reported a page called "child sex", and another called (in Spanish) "child prostetutes" on Facebook in the last few days - the question remains, why were they even allowed to start pages with names like that - Facebook could easily have simple software that prevented that but it seems they do not bother - additionally, software does exist that can recognise faces, it surely would not be too difficult to screen out pictures of underage looking faces and also to screen out certain text. Are you seriously saying that there's too much of it so we'll just have to put up and shut up?

also we have actually reported a number of the offending pages and facebook have said they won't remove them as they don't breach policy!

I quit Facebook, because they do not hold to their "Facebook Community standards". What else can you do? They approve of porn because they do. to take off pornography when reported...I'm upset!

Please do not call it Child Porn. It is Child Abuse.
