Challenging a shop about its porn magazines

I visited a shop today in order to collect a parcel from the Post Office at the back of the premises. As I waited near the magazines I realised that the top shelf was full of porn magazines. At the time I was surprised and uncomfortable, but one of the images in particular has stayed with me all day and I am now angry.

I'd like to write to the Head Office. I would really appreciate any help with getting the wording right.

Head office of the shop chain or the Post Office? What do you want to say to them? Please stop selling material that is not illegal?

Again, thank you for your reply. I remember when I worked in a shop we had to use "modesty sleeves" or some-such for the porn magazines.

I wish I hadn't seen the front cover which had upset me, but thanks to your responses I can see that the perspective is that this is legal, it's ok for it to be there in a general shop and I have to accept it as part of an everyday activity such as collecting a parcel.

No, definitely write. If you're upset about it then it deserves addressing.
Porn mags are what they are, but IMO there is no need for them to be on sale in a post office/ convenience shop. At the very least they should have the modesty covers.

It's nothing to do with the parcel. OK, so you wouldn't have gone into that particular shop if you hadn't had to pick up the parcel, but can you say you never go into shops that sell porn? I think you're confusing things by making a connection to the parcel. It's nothing to do with the Royal Mail; if you want to write, write, but my original question was about what exactly you wanted to say.

I think it's entirely fair enough to write to them giving your view that you don't want to see porn in their shop, especially given it is a shop which provides a necessary function for the community so can't be avoided. However I guess you need to be prepared for their reply to be that it's a business decison they have chosen to made and that they're happy with, and it's well within the law.
I think the argument that just because something is legal means it's fine and you should never question it is a bit of a flimsy one though. Many of the numerous tax dodging going on at the moment is legal but a) immoral b) shouoldn't be legal and c) I as a consumer can choose to avoid places where I'm aware it happens. If I suddenly found out a local restaurant I like doesn't pay any tax as they're registered in Jersey oe whatever then I'd be entitled to talk to management and express my disappointment and tell them I won't be back until they change their ways. If they got 1000 letters like this they might change their behaviour. If they got zero they probably won't.
So in summary definitely write to them but try and be clear in explaining what you didn't like and ask them to reconsider their policy. But be aware they probably won't. We can't all affect changes but we can all try to!

Thanks for the reply Kiki. Despite jkk telling me how I felt, I still disagreed with their advice. I wrote to the head quarters of the store 'hosting' the post office. Very quick reply telling me that it was company policy that all such magazines be displayed in the modesty covers. They would be reminding the store manager of this policy and apologised. I'm happy with this outcome.

Also, I've spoken to the parcel force delivery person and asked him why my parcels had to go to that shop. He said he'd forgotten about the nearer post office and would use there in future.
