Surprise, surprise.

A segment coming up about anonymity for those accused of rape. I swear the amount of airtime this topic gets is one of those false equivalence things. Meh.

Would be lovely if they bucked the norm and did a segment on rapists and how not to be one? (hint: seek enthusiastic consent beforehand)

It's all about the menz, isn't it? Wouldn't it be nice if sex crimes were seen as crimes and not as sex?

Aagh, I know what I'm trying to say but the words aren't coming out properly!

Salbertina · 20/05/2013 07:48

Indeed!

And sensible debate about all these abuse scandals and this being spearheaded by eminent MALE as well as female media people (ie not sidelined to being a "women's issue")

And proper, accountable discussion about online pornography and the frequency with which it objectifies women, often violently. Which has a corrosive effect on growing teens and the setting of their sexual norms.

"It's all about the menz, isn't it?" How dare they do such a thing on Mens Hour, issues regarding men/gender should only be discussed by feminists, right?

"I swear the amount of airtime this topic gets is one of those false equivalence things." I agree that it gets too much airtime in general, but I don't think you can apply that to a Mens Hour radio show. However, although I haven't heard the broadcast in question, I will go out on a limb and propose that not once did someone proclaim that getting raped/accused/falsely accused were equivalent.

CoalDustWoman · 20/05/2013 20:19

No, the airtime equivalence is what I'm talking about. As in, whenever there are news stories about rape "scandals", there is a segment about false accusations. Disproportionate.

Tbf to 5live, they have been noticeably better at reporting women's sport, so we should be grateful for that, I suppose.

I'm just tired of it all.

Or they could have a segment about men who have been victims of rape (given that it is more likely than to be falsely accused), about how to get support and how you're not the only person it's happened to and so on.

Might be more useful & helpful to more people I would have thought.

Or maybe they have already talked about that.
