I think it's important that the buyers' choices in prostitution are highlighted and shared. This project was linked to on FB. Thoughts? I think it's a great idea.

Ex working girl here. The reviews and the sad fuckers, sorry hobbyists, who used to discuss working girls obsessively on sites like punternet were the bane of my life.

It's all about exercising some kind of control over the women IMO. They know that writing a negative review can have a serious impact on someone's earnings as most punters check out the reviews before booking, and they love the power it gives them.

I always felt that it was as if they felt diminished by handing over the money and they wanted to try to take that power back by writing about the woman online and affecting her business for better or worse.

If you ever read any punter forums, you'll notice that they have enormous resentment towards these women who they're so obsessed with. They absolutely hate the women making a decent living from what they do and think they should all be charging what prostitutes in developing countries charge. So if a sexual service is available in thailand for £15 then they believe they are being ripped off if an escort in London wants £150 for her time.

No respect whatsoever for the working girls, huge resentment towards them and yet total obsession with them. It's a weird world, the world of punting forums.

I should be referring to all of this in the past tense as my experiences are from a few years ago now but I find it hard to believe that any of it has changed much Hmm

No, I was, but reading the stories in detail is worse than imagining - hearing it all first hand, so to speak.

Interesting post, catlike, thank you.

Catlike, thanks from me too, that's very interesting. There were some posts on here a little while ago about how certain things might happen to bring the prices of prostitution down. Just vile.

I will take a look at the invisible link. Cat that sounds awful. I posted this on the Elle thread but i will post it here too.

In this months Marie Claire (June issue) Katie Glass had a go at directing a feminist porn film.
There was a young woman in this film called Ashley.
Do you know the saddest thing that jumped out at me from the whole article about this ... when Ashley mentioned her job to her hairdresser, her hairdresser didnt want to touch her hair any more.
That made me feel incredibly sad. Because its just one example of the prejudice that female porn stars face. Its slut shaming and it sickens me. Porn stars are people just like anyone else and Ashley comes across as a lovely person.
Katie Glass came to the conclusion that so called feminist porn is just as exploitative as other porn and when the completed film was given to her she decided not to watch it

But after the Elle thread developed and i noticed the phrase "rip my fucking holes open" i find the fact that the article has appeared in a younger womens magazine like Elle extremely worrying.

The reason i bought Marie Claire this month was for the free Avon lipstick and free Avon BB cream sample.
Used the BB Cream sample last Saturday and it was lovely.

Just read the link in the OP.
Theres a site called Punernet Really????!!!!

Jesus fucking Christ. Some of the people on the Elle thread really need to read the link on here.

And you can tell by some of the posts in that link that the girls were being forced. And stuff like interviews with SG in a young womans magazine shudders

Sorry I meant Punternet not Punernet....oh hang on though.

Darkest those posters have no interest in getting educated about what they are calling "harmless" I am afraid

Or they dismiss it because their right to orgasm at the sight of somebody else being abused trumps all else

AF its fucking scary. I felt sick reading the posts in that link. And there are some posters who need to read it.
Im thinking of the ones who are all "cool wifey" about their partners going to red light districts on stag dos both here and abroad.
Its all part of the same industry and the subliminal message it gives to women is that you are a prude or frigid if you dont put up with it.

Grunternet field reports are extremley grim, but I'm surprised no one seems to have heard of them before.

They are nearly all very graphic, but I must say they do seem to have lifted some of the worst. Not that I'm defending these 'punters'. Many o the men seem To also have develped very unhealthy feelings for the girls they pay. Crossing huge boundaries and forgetting they are doing it for money. Eg buying gifts, taking them to dinner(married men)and giving them sex toys for their sessions. Cos they are all raging nymphos who do it for fun.

However, if you want a biGger shock check out uk punting.

What do you honestly expect to read when you read a prostitute review website.
You could counter that with escort adverts and see what they say.

Prostitution will always exist.
When someone is willing to sell, someone else is willing to buy sex.

Murder will always exist. So we should legalise it? (The answer is no, in case you can't grasp that.)

Report
OldLadyKnowsNothing · 07/05/2013 23:46

Prostitution doesn't need to be legalised, it's already legal. Comparison with murder ludicrous.

Report
AnyFucker · 07/05/2013 23:51

flora wasn't comparing murder and prostitution

she was pointing out the weakness of the argument that just because something has been around a long time, it makes it ok or not worth raising objections to

This sort of thing is why all those people who like to say prostitution is just like working in McDonalds are delusional. It's never going to be "just" a financial transaction while men with such weird attitudes towards women exist.

FloraFox · 08/05/2013 00:15

AF - quite. That it even needs to be explained Confused

OLKN - ? Is that your reaction to the project also?

My was with the endlessly-repeated supposition that prostitution is illegal in the UK, and that it needs to be decriminalised or legalised. It is perfectly legal to work as a prostitute in the UK, even in a brothel, and it is perfectly legal to engage the services of a prostitute, even in a brothel, in the UK.

Frances, punters are just ordinary men. In Real Life, women marry, and have children with, these exact same men, with the exact same attitudes. Have you looked at hthe realationships board recently?
