I needed an inlet manifold gasket for my car. I contacted a business that I have never had any contact with before. I spoke to them. I ordered the part. I paid for the part with my card. I did not refer in any way to my family, or indeed if I had one. I gave my first and last name and no title.

Guess who the part arrived addressed to? Hand written envelope. And a letter in a separate envelope offering a good deal on a new car?

Did the letter say, "Mr I Foryourparty," because sadly, I wouldn't be that surprised. The person you spoke to may or may not have guessed you were a woman and even if they did, the order was probably filled by someone else who yes, assumed "only a man" would order a car part, so addressed it to "Mr." If you can be arsed, a letter or email explaining that you will not be using their firm again, nor recommending it to anyone else because of their error might make a difference but will probably get filed immediately in their bin, sadly.

If they actually put your DH's real name on the envelope, I'd be more than a little concerned how they knew the details of another person living at your address if you had not given these to them. Could be a violation of Data Protection legislation if they are holding information about you or your DH without your consent. A letter asking that they destroy all data they hold about you would be in order and a separate one saying the same from your DH (as well as perhaps seeking advice from the Information Commissioner's Office on what to do if you think there has been an infringement of your rights here.)

I thought she was saying the letter was addressed to her DH, not that the title was wrong. Think you have misread the OP.

If it makes you a bit better I suffered a bit of sexism this morning too.
I went along to see my little daughter in the annual Easter bonnet hat parade, just like every year. Today though the kids wouldn't parade around playground in their bonnets while the parents clapped like normal as the wind was too strong and we all reconvened in the hall.
There was plenty of parents and grandparents there as usual and we were all stood four deep, shoulder to shoulder around the edge of the hall. As usual men were out numbered by women by a ratio of at least 10 to 1. Most of the women know each other in the school gate club sort of way.
In come the kids and begin parading round and everybody starts clapping.
2 or 3 minutes in and all was going great when suddenly there was an awful shitty/farty smell. Somebody had dropped a real stinker.
I was surrounded by women, the nearest bloke was about 7 or 8 yds away, it had to be one of these women, but not wanting to embarrass anyone I acted like it wasn't happening.
Right on cue about 4 women turned around and looked at me as though to say "You dirty bastard" Obviously I am a bloke so it must be me. One in particular, the one standing immediately in front of me gave me a whithering look and shook her head. I responded by looking her straight in the eye and laughing said " Er...no, think again"
I wanted to say " Think again you cliche riddled sexist sod" But I didn't I chalked it up to experience. I had to laugh afterwards though. Especially when I thought about it and realised that there is a good chance that the farter was stood in hearing distance and watched this all happen.
So, like yours it was a bit trivial, but I didn't get the rage.
Seems sexism is a two way street after all. :~)

Actually Childrenofthestones that's the best bit of reverse sexism I've read today. You poor chap, you're now going to get blamed for every trump, grumble and bellyrumble for the rest of DCs school career...

Childrenifthestones, if it makes you feel better, I encountered a similar smell today in my classroom and the only possible culprits were all female. One of them even looked quite embarrassed. And there were several 12 year old boys in the room but it never occured to me to pin the blame on one of them!

OP - I totally understand. Last year I booked my car in at a local garage for a service. On the day I booked it in I took it to the garage and when it was ready I collected the care. No mention was made of my husband and I actually own the car, it is in my name - I bought it and I paid for it. Anyway, a few days later the bill arrived. Guess what, it was addressed to my husband! I called the garage and told them that I would not pay the bill until they sent a bill addressed to me as it was my car etc etc. It makes me really sick. My DH couldnt believe it and told the owner of the garage that he ought to start working in this century, if not we would not be using them again. As we have 4 vehicles needless to say the bill came back addressed to me.

When I mentioned this to my work colleagues they couldnt understand why I was pissed off about it. IMO they had just assumed that the car belonged to my DH and I was just doing him a favour taking it for a service.
