So apparently there are ever increasing numbers of male nurses in the US now - and they are paid more.

here

In the comments section there are a few nurses claiming that salaries are completely formulaic and can't be dictated by gender, but we all know that salaries in any field shouldn't be determined by gender - but are.

There are two sides to this, I think.

First is the depressing truth that as ever, traditionally female jobs are low-paid until men start to do them.

But on a more positive note, perhaps this new trend will pull up wages for all nurses across the board - lord knows they deserve it.

link isn't happening for me. I wonder if it is to do with women losing out by taking time off to have children. I really don't understand how people do it maternity leave is a joke here Sad

also I don't see how rates can be formulaic, as the hospitals all work for themselves. they can pay what they like.. so someone can negotiate a higher salary.

The story from CBS. The nurse anesthetists post seems to be a big part of the difference, but the story indicates it's an issue in all roles.

That Yahoo link is even more informative (and depressing). :(
