a question for the men here

Mitchy1nge · 29/01/2013 01:01

what makes you think you have anything of real value to bring to discussions about women's experiences and expectations?

obviously some men can make interesting contributions (although those sorts of men don't often announce themselves here) to some discussions but generally, on the whole, everything everywhere else is already pretty saturated in Male Voice so was just wondering where you got the idea from

OP posts:
RM76 · 31/01/2013 23:07

TwiggyD, if you bothered to read the thread, I'll think you'll find I said it might have been handled differently, and, yes I am female.
If you bothered to look, HG and I had a long discussion about it, but don't let facts get in the way of a rant.

MoreBeta · 31/01/2013 23:09

I've just finished baking a brioche.

MiniTheMinx · 31/01/2013 23:10

Giga, would you first like to see equality btw all men?

As things are some men are more equal than others, infact some women are more equal than others. Some women have achieved better equality with their men but as a result, other women have less equality with them.

Pan · 31/01/2013 23:10

yes thanks for that good point Tiggy. Throwing (groundless) personally abusive stuff around appears to be okay, in some circumstances, and no-one minds at all. Thats a sign of a healthy discourse, isn't it?

northeastofeden · 31/01/2013 23:10

Women's prisons are just as overstretched btw, but women are still more likely to get a custodial sentence because they are not behaving in an 'feminine' (as defined by the patriarchy) fashion. but boys, well they will be boys won't they, cue massive excuse for violence and violent actions from the patriarchy.

giga do you think the patriarchy doesn't exist then?

Because if we resolved that problem it would have a pretty big impact on a lot of the things you say you are concerned about.

FastidiaBlueberry · 31/01/2013 23:11

You're very vague Giga.

I asked you how to solve it but you haven't told me how. So I just have to go to bed now, maybe when I get up and take a look at this thread tomorrow, I'll be rewarded by seeing your brilliant solution to the problem of men being so terribly violent.

Am really looking forward to it. Good night.

RM76 · 31/01/2013 23:12

Gigabot9k, I said it about you, not to you. I'm entitled to an opinion.

Daddelion · 31/01/2013 23:12

'Hully called Pan a cowardly pussywhipped wanker. How many people complained? How many people said personal abuse is not allowed? None.'

Well said Tiggy.

I'll leave you to it as well.
Back to Dadsnet we've got a world to run.

GetOrf · 31/01/2013 23:15

So you carefully avoid a whole discussion with some pretty heartfelt posts to pick up on one insulting post by one MNer and get all self righteous about that? Talking about nailing your colours to the mast.

I am going to bed, thinking of morebeta's brioche ( that sounds rude I don't know why!) got a breadmaker arriving soon, apparently that can make brioche. Yum.
Night all!

NormaStanleyFletcher · 31/01/2013 23:20

Ahhhh - derailed much

Such a shame (again)

Welcome Giga.

I await one of our male posters addressing your (frankly strange) posts. As I have a little inkling, that that is the only voice you might actually listen to, but then that not that much

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 31/01/2013 23:23

'Hully called Pan a cowardly pussywhipped wanker.

Er, no she didn't. This is the post where 'pussy whipped' came into this - pan used it himself:

Pan Thu 31-Jan-13 20:00:30
Sabrina - I doubt/know it would make any difference whatsoever. Some people's culture and beliefs are ingrained - the interpretation would v probably 'why should I be dislocated from my comfortableness by some pussy-whipped liberal?'

Hully called him a coward for this - as countless posters pointed out, pan hasn't refrained from arguing with feminists who maybe described as being entrenched in their views.

But I might have known that when actually asked to stand up for the women on the feminist section, some of men would strop off, feeling wounded Hmm

snowshapes · 31/01/2013 23:24

Oh for pity's sake. Egalitarianism is a contested moral philosophy, it is fuck all to do with prisons really. But I have learned some good insults in the last five minutes.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 31/01/2013 23:25

'Hully called Pan a cowardly pussywhipped wanker. How many people complained? How many people said personal abuse is not allowed? None.'

To be honest, I leave it up to the individual who has been 'abused' to complain themselves. Most of the times I have been called something horrible on here (mostly during the F 4 J invasion) I wanted the insults to stand. Somebody else reported, and I was gutted when it was removed as it showed them as they were.

I draw the line at racist/diablist/etc stuff, but personal insults, let it stand unless the person being insulted wants it removed

RM76 · 31/01/2013 23:25

Pan joining tiggy/gigabot, starting to think I was wrong to say anything in your defence.

LineRunner · 31/01/2013 23:27

What Sabrina said ^^

GetOrf · 31/01/2013 23:27

How the bloody hell do people make brioches at home? Isn't it something fiendishly difficult?

snowshapes · 31/01/2013 23:28

Slow typing, I was to the full of shit insult, not the pussy whipped liberal one, which is downright offensive, imo.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 31/01/2013 23:34

RM76 - i know you said you were new here, just wanted to say I've really appreciated your responses on this, and other, threads. Smile

You'll soon recognise the de-railers here

Pan · 31/01/2013 23:36

Sabrina - of course you're right - Tiggy wasn't entirely accurate, but conveyed the crux of it. Nobody seemed to mind a great deal.
As we are being careful to be accurate, rightly, I'd explained why "sometimes" I haven't challenged trolls/offensive posts, though also pointed up where I have, which was entirely ignored for some reason. and fwiw I don't 'strop off'. Here, I reported the insult/personal attack, ( which have been deleted) and got on with other stuff. 'Wounded' not experienced, just quite a bit of rolling of eyes.

feministefatale · 31/01/2013 23:37

Can I just say I did not call out hully for her arguments as I agreed with her. Are you saying you agree with dad dancer as he is the MRA most discussed on this thread.

feministefatale · 31/01/2013 23:38

Oh and as been mentioned she did not call him pussy whipped. obviously.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 31/01/2013 23:38

Can I clarify the 'pussy whipped liberal' point? Maybe.

pan, when talking about why he didn't speak out against posters like daddancer, gave 3 reasons. The third reason was that posters like DD wouldn't have their mind changed and would just think him a 'pussy whipped liberal'.

Can I stress, that whilst this was called out as cowardly by Hully one poster, nobody here actually called pan that.

AbigailAdams · 31/01/2013 23:40

"I like cats. Cats aren't misogynistic..."
"Egalitarianism is a contested moral philosophy, it is fuck all to do with prisons really"

Made me larf. Many contenders for quote of the week on here Grin.
