a question for the men here

Mitchy1nge · 29/01/2013 01:01

what makes you think you have anything of real value to bring to discussions about women's experiences and expectations?

obviously some men can make interesting contributions (although those sorts of men don't often announce themselves here) to some discussions but generally, on the whole, everything everywhere else is already pretty saturated in Male Voice so was just wondering where you got the idea from

Sabrina, right back at ya! And my hubby says he loves your username, I loved that episode of Red Dwarf, forgot it till he reminded me Grin

lemonmuffin · 31/01/2013 23:41

what does 'pussywhipped' mean Hully?

Do tell.

Pan · 31/01/2013 23:43

no of course they didn't. I was trying to convey the mind-set of someone who posts like that and how I, or any male arguing would be viewed. It would be like arguing with the wine-dunked cat mentioned above. It is an offensive phrase, but that's how it goes.
bed time.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 31/01/2013 23:43

Xposted with pan - Actually pan, I thought it a bit rich that you ran off and reported the 'coward' comment - when you admitted you wouldn't stand up for women here, and gave rather dubious reasons...

Speaking for myself, I would love it if the men here stood up against these trolls more.

Morebeta - thanks for your example of standing up to trolls- it was great. Thanks

Beachcomber · 31/01/2013 23:44

Surely we need Pan to channel the sort of poster that he thinks would think that of him in order to have a relevant definition?

feministefatale · 31/01/2013 23:44

Well lemon, as hully never used it she probably need not define it for you

LineRunner · 31/01/2013 23:44

Pan used 'pussy-whipped liberal' on this thread first. Best ask him. Everyone else was just quoting it back, and differently.

Thanks RM - I'm a huge Red Dwarf fan. Even if I make a twat of myself on here, I can't ever namechange because I love this name too much.

GetOrf · 31/01/2013 23:46

Well done lemon.

MiniTheMinx · 31/01/2013 23:47

AbigailAdams , thanks for the reply, I have read it all but the thread had moved on.

"How we got here is as much to do with what women have and haven't done as anything men have." I think we tend to overlook women in history, almost as though women have never contributed, of course we have we are 50% of the population. In terms of today, women's RL exp, I would agree with you.

Pan · 31/01/2013 23:48

oh sabrina - I said I have. Quite a few times when posting here previously. I even quoted two - Bob, and his mate. They hung around for weeks, like leeches. I just said why I don't do it every time.
def bed.

AnyFucker · 31/01/2013 23:49

I reckon we should smack the trolls round the head with brioche

It's the only course of action

AnyFucker · 31/01/2013 23:49

lemon ask Pan what "pussy whipped" means, since he introduced that concept to the thread

MiniTheMinx · 31/01/2013 23:50

I don't think I like the idea of Pan coming over all chivalrous but I do think it would be nice not if he stood up for us but simply stood with us.

AbigailAdams · 31/01/2013 23:50

Yeah no worries Mini, another time!

RM76 · 31/01/2013 23:54

Anyfucker so they'd be 'Brioche whipped'?

AnyFucker · 31/01/2013 23:56

I can think of worse ways to meet my maker Smile

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 31/01/2013 23:58

The men standing with us would be great. Otherwise, what's the point of being here?

Actually, don't answer that, I think I already know the answer.

RM76 · 01/02/2013 00:11

Just looking through the thread, perhaps sunshinefreedom's suicide by cat is what's meant by 'pussy whipped'

"going to go to sleep before this thread makes me kill myself. With my cat."

Sorry Sunshine, couldn't resist! Grin

feministefatale · 01/02/2013 00:11

Hey lemon, how come you didn't notice that hully didn't say that, or that any of us have said she didn't say that... but you did notice where she was misquoted by a man

Can you only see posts made my men?

Why have 3 male posters been happy to imply that hully did say that?

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 01/02/2013 00:21

It is certainly interesting that 2 of those 3 male posters have now flounced off this thread - one of them with a glib remark about having a world to run - the perceived insult of a man being far more important than all the gendered insults aimed at women on MN.

'ugly' 'fat' 'hairy' 'lesbian' 'prude' 'jealous' 'manhater' 'shrill' etc- all insults aimed towards women who speak out on MN - I don't see these being reported/deleted or people stropping off thread about them.

TheDoctrineOfSciAndNatureClub · 01/02/2013 00:48

To meet your maker or your breadmaker, AF Wink

if there's an Active convo that catches my eye like "AIBU to think boys are all rowdy", I go and pop a "YABU, many children of both sexes are rowdy on there" and then wander off. No need to engage. Even when I know it's a Goady Fuck, it's worth stating disagreement so there's some counter position standing until said GF has enough rope to hang themselves which might take several threads. I think that's all that posters are saying we'd appreciate - whenever you see it, call it, even if it's a brief post.

NEE, thank for the info about DD.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 01/02/2013 00:54

TonyN is on that Stripping the illusion site too - some may remember Tony from the Feminist Activism section - he made me LOL with his description of being 'friends' with all the strippers. And the stripper doing a very artistic dance to 'Eye of the Tiger.'

RM76 · 01/02/2013 00:55

pan can't believe you reported HG. I know you were upset at the time, but you have not really handled it very well since. HG was angry, but she had a point. You got a bit of support from a couple of people with questionable opinions and immediately jumped in bed with them. You didn't point out what had not been said (pussy whipped etc) and ignored the fact that some people did say a little in your defence (me). I did not defend you more because I disagreed with you too. Really disappointed.
