a question for the men here

Mitchy1nge · 29/01/2013 01:01

what makes you think you have anything of real value to bring to discussions about women's experiences and expectations?

obviously some men can make interesting contributions (although those sorts of men don't often announce themselves here) to some discussions but generally, on the whole, everything everywhere else is already pretty saturated in Male Voice so was just wondering where you got the idea from

I never would have guessed Daddancer had a vested interest in the lap dancing industry Grin

Are MNHQ going to do anything about this? Is this a breach of their guidelines? Are people allowed to come on MN under a cloak of anonymity and 'promote' something they are professionally involved in?

You are supposed to pay to promote your business I believe, so I think it does go against the MNHQ rules. Also I think quoting us is especially shit

RM76 · 31/01/2013 21:55

HGDon't get me wrong, I totally agree with you, and hey I've raged over this for years. I'd gladly see feminism get loud. I just wonder if we get that mad at pan, what have we got left for LapDancerLover (sorry,I Love that).
Pan needs telling! But maybe quietly.
If you read any of my links I am NOT a moderate, we should shout, and shout loud, but maybe we should pick our battles?

LRD your right, it' not difficult to support women.
when men suggest it's hard to stand up to misogynists, like GetOrf described in the locker room, and misogyny online, then that is bollocks and they are lying!

We have seen what has happened when we ignore the crap that is thrown at women online, it just festers and gets worse.
The myth that these are just trolls and that we should just ignore them has been shown to be rubbish when we see what happened to Mary Beard.

Men need to stand up and be counted, we sorely need them, and if they don't, HG is right, they are cowards.
Would I call an individual a coward? I might have worded it slightly differently, perhaps, 'Don't you think it's a bit cowardly to do nothing?' is that any different, not really.

Hullygully · 31/01/2013 21:56

rm

as I say, you might think differently had you been around a while...

northeastofeden · 31/01/2013 21:57

Just thought you lot should know. Not sure MNHQ can or will do anything about it. I have never had a comment reported before. What happens? Will I get in trouble? Sorry if I have derailed, but he has been all over all the threads and he has a specific agenda which he has not been open about on here.

Regarding whether men can bring value to this conversation, I agree with the point they bring value if they listen and try to understand, rather than make it about them or telling women we are doing feminism wrong.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 31/01/2013 21:58

I would still like more men to stand up against misogyny on here - and not just on the feminist section.

Several men on this thread have talked all about their wish to have a voice on this section - and seem to have no problem arguing with the feminists, so...? What about the men?

TiggyD · 31/01/2013 21:58

Not sure you can ban somebody for having I vested interest in a subject. We all have a vested interest in the sectors we work for. His posting style does seem to be deliberately inflammatory on occasions and I'm not sure how he is related to a site for parents by parents. I wonder how many posts are parenting related?

Hullygully · 31/01/2013 21:58

of course they'll ban him, hes a troll

still, men, dont challenge the troll eh? dont want to look pussywhipped

feministefatale · 31/01/2013 22:00

"reportin" just brings something to MNHQ's attention. Sometimes I will ask a question to MNHQ and then "report" it.

Wildly guessing and calling someone a troll is not allowed under MNHQ guidelines, but what you said is fair enough if that is something he has told the internet. It isn't troll hunting if he really is a troll. I am hoping MNHQ will come back with an answer, you could even report it yourself and include the page where he is specifically quoting mumnsetters as that is pretty bad.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 31/01/2013 22:00

Northeast - I'm glad you outed him.

AnyFucker · 31/01/2013 22:00

north all "reporting" means is that your post will be brought to the attention of MNHQ

this site isn't moderated, and they don't watch every thread unless we ask them to by reporting

they will look into this, and you won't be in trouble Smile

MiniTheMinx · 31/01/2013 22:01

All men?
But all men are engaged in trying to gain social power over other men and therefore women. Have been since time began. In fact any man who wants to win at sport or get a pay rise Smile

I hope MN do the right thing with DD.

Hullygully · 31/01/2013 22:01

I used to like men( some)

being on mn is putting me right off them, feels like I've gone back years with these attitudes and bullshit

MiniTheMinx · 31/01/2013 22:02

Oh yes, must add thank you Northeast, Great work.

feministefatale · 31/01/2013 22:02

Several men on this thread have talked all about their wish to have a voice on this section - and seem to have no problem arguing with the feminists, so...? What about the men?

ive asked that twice now

AnyFucker · 31/01/2013 22:02

it will probably be uncovered that DD is a PBP (previously banned poster)

this site is plagued with a minority of them

LineRunner · 31/01/2013 22:02

When a poster is goading and misleading, on MN they are a troll, I believe.

There seems to be some misconception that the very, very small number of male regulars posters spend a lot of time on Mumsnet and a lot of time in the Feminist section.

It's been made pretty clear, since it started, we're not welcome in here.

And if men did come in here and started to tell people off I wonder what posters would say?

We don't need the menz coming here and fighting our battles.

feministefatale · 31/01/2013 22:07

oh and sorry northeast if you felt I was reporting "you" and not just bringing what you said to mnhqs attention, I am glad you said it

you keep telling us what we think and what we would say.

We have all said that isn't true.

male privilege?

GetOrf · 31/01/2013 22:09

Bloody hell beta!

Thanks for that. As Anyf says rispeck.

And thanks for that link, I had forgotten. Why do I remember threads from 5 years ago about children pissing in tesco carrier bags and not one where you stood up to a sexist troll by invoking the spirit of Shania Twain?

Now, please can you stand up to dadprancer by using the lyrics of Michael Buble or Barbara Dickson songs. Grin

LRDtheFeministDragon · 31/01/2013 22:10

dad - there are some male posters who spend a lot of time in FWR. There are also loads of posters like snorbs or like you, who I seldom see in here and to be honest, I'm not sure (despite your name) I would have picked up you were blokes.
