a question for the men here

Mitchy1nge · 29/01/2013 01:01

what makes you think you have anything of real value to bring to discussions about women's experiences and expectations?

obviously some men can make interesting contributions (although those sorts of men don't often announce themselves here) to some discussions but generally, on the whole, everything everywhere else is already pretty saturated in Male Voice so was just wondering where you got the idea from

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 31/01/2013 21:15

just once would do it

make your timing impeccable it will be remembered and appreciated

btw, now would be too late

SplitHeadGirl · 31/01/2013 21:15

AF - It's not too much to ask is it, GetOrf ? Since, as has already been said, when women in other areas of MN say stuff like "men are all bastards" there is a chorus of "no, they are not"

I notice that all the time. Not just on this forum, but on other forums. Whenever someone criticise men, women always defend them and show them support, but when a man criticises women, more than likely the men will agree or just say nothing!!!!

It pisses me off so much I don't bother defending men ever, anymore. They don't do it for me or other women.

NicholasTeakozy · 31/01/2013 21:16

Ahem, usually I rtft before posting but DD annoyed me with his casual attitude to underage porn. Had I read through I'd probably have been way harsher than I was.

And no, I don't want cookies, I have onion rings and beer.

GetOrf I've been deleted loads for crossing the line standing up to trolls. Once for telling somebody to stick their head back up their arse. It was warranted though, in my defence.

GetOrf · 31/01/2013 21:16

Yes but Beta if someone says something which politically you fundamentally disagree with like 'all tory voters are scum' or something equally ridiculous, do you not say something mild like 'stop talking rubbish'. So not engaging in an argument but just stating your disagreement. Same as you could just post 'you are talking complete nonsense and NOT all men think like that' towards the offensive fuckers who post stuff which genuinely upsets posters on here. It's horrible to read some of the stuff on here sometimes. It would be nice to see a bit of support from male posters, that's all.

TiggyD · 31/01/2013 21:17

StewieGriffinsmum" My imaginary hide-a-poster button is a very nice button! "

CrackFox"SGM - I have a lovely ignore button too, sheer bliss. "

The usual response to trolls is to avoid feeding them. As the above posters did.

feministefatale · 31/01/2013 21:17

We really should have a beer emoticon.

northeastofeden · 31/01/2013 21:18

In the spirit of solidarity:

John Ridgely shut up you stupid misogynistic arse.

Now moving on and will ignore all future posts from this silly little man. Am not a man myself by the way but have been lurking.

LineRunner · 31/01/2013 21:20

And a good response to feminism is solidarity.

MoreBeta · 31/01/2013 21:24

GetOrf - we x-posted.

However, believe it or not I actually wrote the words "I can only think of half a dozen or so MN regular men" in my last post and the deleted it.

There are only a tiny number of us so we are here a tiny amount of time. I have definitely seen Pan take on MRA types on threads in the past, I have done so and no doubt other MN men have too. We are just not here that much and do you really want us popping up on loads of MN threads to shoo away the MRA....?

Look, I get it, I do push back here and in RL against misogyny.

Daddelion · 31/01/2013 21:28

Go to cricket training and miss it all.

If I'd said what HullyGully said I'd be banned now.

I don't often challenge people on the anonymous Internet much, as I think it's pointless and cowardly, keyboard warrior stuff.

On Facebook when I know them, yes.
In real life, face to face, yes.

On the Internet hiding behind nicknames, it's all a bit cowardly.
Especially when it's someone like DD goading you.

Someone called HullyGully, called someone called Pan a coward.
And someone called DadDancing is a wanker, he could be anyone, could be a man could be a woman stirring the shit.

Anonymous Internet threats I think are cowardly.

I did call a Dad an arse on Dadsnet the other day, where was my cookie?

northeastofeden · 31/01/2013 21:33

daddancer is John Ridgely of Stripping the Illusion, he openly admits it and has a specific agenda. He is not a woman. He campaigns to get licences for strip clubs. He only comes here to troll and then gleefully reports back. He is a bit obsessed by mumsnet.

He is not a woman stirring the shit.

MoreBeta · 31/01/2013 21:35

AF "just once would do it, make your timing impeccable it will be remembered and appreciated"

I am bereft that you and GetOrf dont fondly remember and cherish my put down of an MRA type incorporating a Shania Twain song lyric. Sad

Daddelion · 31/01/2013 21:37

Well if he's on here and deliberately trolling, why isn't he banned?

LineRunner · 31/01/2013 21:37

How interesting. Is he involved directly with any SEV license holders, owners or staff, I wonder.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 31/01/2013 21:41

How'd you know, northeast? (I want to report him because, as daddelion says, we could do with banning him if he's trolling.)

AnyFucker · 31/01/2013 21:41

MB respec' Grin

AnyFucker · 31/01/2013 21:42

It seems DadDancer comes to MN to rip off quotes as well.

This was very true Tony about Mumsnet, following my input on another Lap Dancing thread, regarding the positive Guardian article, i was called both a wanker and an abuser of young women, for no other reason than supporting lap dancing clubs. However there have also been a lot of other pro posters on there who have made some great points. I was under the name DadDancer

He is a blogger on stripping the illusion and there are lots of comments re:winding the mumsnetters up. If you can bear to you find them around the site.

northeastofeden · 31/01/2013 21:48

sorry my links didn't work! Doh

It doesn't really surprise me that men don't call other men out on sexism. Men are only interested in the approval of other men. It's all about competition between men and a race to the top of the pecking order, always has been. Women are as we have always been just spoils in that war.

northeastofeden · 31/01/2013 21:49

He also actively petitions councils to keep / or open LDC

AnyFucker · 31/01/2013 21:49

woahh

steady on folks... don't bump up the blog hits

it's just the reason why people like that come here (as well as getting people at each other throats, like I pointed out earlier)

feministefatale · 31/01/2013 21:51

I reported NE's comment to MNHQ to ask why dd hasnt been banned. Maybe someone could report minis too?
