I have had DS1 this year.

I have been on Mn (started off lurking) since 2009. When I joined, I wouldn't have called myself a feminist and I was quite tied in to the idea of being a SAHM(not that you can't be a feminist and a SAHM), seeing housework and childcare as my future responsibilities. Since being on MN I have slowly taken on more and more ideas and have become aware of how prevalent gender stereotyping etc. still is.

Fast forward to now, DS is 10 mo, me and DH parent equally - DH is more than capable of looking after him if I have to dash off - I don't have to leave 'instructions', we split housework, I am going back to work soon (and am looking forward to it). I don't do 'wifework' for example - DS sorts out his own families bday/christmas presents and I do mine. I am SO happy and a lot of this is thanks to you all who have helped me open my eyes to how I can be both a parent and myself, so thank you and happy new year :)

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 31/12/2012 21:02

Aww, that's great!

skrumle · 31/12/2012 21:28

I'd like to thank them too - I've taken real action as a feminist for the first time this year, and had the confidence to do so because of this forum Smile

Happy New Year!

MiniTheMinx · 31/12/2012 21:44

Just popped in to say Happy New Year to all of MN's Fab feminists who humour my essay long posts (promise this won't be one) pull me up when I start rambling incoherently (i do this often) put forward alternative views ( i need to hear it sometimes) and who do so much to further the cause of women's rights. Happy new Year to one and all, hopefully this year will be the year that the mainstream press publish "We got it wrong, Feminism isn't dead, it's well and truly alive"

That's very good and if you roll on 25 years to my stage it really does pay off in terms of life satisfaction, long career, earnings, how your children feel (they love successful working mothers for all kinds of reasons) etc.

GunsAndRoses · 16/01/2013 01:26

I'm liking the MN feminists too. Very interesting.

EchoBitch · 16/01/2013 01:36

That is lovely,i'm a cynical old woman but i still love to hear about a young family getting it right where everyone is equal and happy.
