one of you erudite women will be able to tell explain why this is so irritating.

The obsession with women's clothes is annoying, but this is nothing short of soft porn.

It saddens me greatly that in 2012 women still think the only way to get noticed is to wear total indecent outfits and that a "respectable" paper panders to them.

These aren't clever revealing dresses like Liz Hurley's, which you could argue was worth a picture they are just sad.

I find the hypocrisy annoying. 'Look, BOOBs .... oh, but it's ok, because you can tut about how shocking they are'.

I don't give a fuck what someone wants to wear and I really don't like the sniggery tone of 'worst dressed' lists. Ok, some of those outfits are a bit like constumes and probably the people wearing them wanted to be noticed - but some of those women will have thought they were conforming to 'patriarchial fuckability standards' and looking nice, and now they're having fun poked at them.

I don't think any of those outfits strike me as 'indecent', though.

yeah the point and laugh mentality is unappealing. particularly when it's people going about their daily life being mocked, rather than people who have deliberately chosen controversial red carpet/performance outfits.

Yeah, the celeb in leggings and Ugg boots looked "typical mum with baby", didn't see the point in that at all.

Yes, I really hate look what C list Celeb wore to take her DC to nursery photo's. Who cares?
Even worse are the Daily mail look at X on holiday, doesn't she look fat/skinny photos.

I have two DDs, I want them to feel they can wear what feels comfortable and be the sizes they are without being judged.

The phrase P. fuckability standards sums up those dresses perfectly, I wish I could spell it.

Just makes me sad that women still feel that they have to wear clothes like that to get noticed at those sort of events.

However, for people in showbiz, "the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about". There's a circular form of logic that says these people are interesting because they're well-known, and well-known because they're interesting. If nonentities like us didn't respond to this, there'd be no money in it for anyone.

I was listening to Radio 5 this morning. They were discussing the Sports Personality awards last night. Kate Middleton's first appearance since hospital was mentioned by Nicky Campbell. Victoria Derbyshire then seem to feel compelled to mention the dress, the colour etc.

Why does a female news journalist feel this compulsion to go into fashion detail on a sports story? It is ridiculous.

It's inescapable, female labour politician being interviewed on R4 saying the press always had comment on what women MPs wear.

Is it worst dressed women prize? Or just worst dressed in 2012.

If my DH is anything to go by, I think the list would be too long.

Although at the moment he's trying for the most ridiculous hair do award.

He fancies the sodding hair dresser, why doesn't he ring her and stop looking like a loo brush.

Well, to be fair about half of those outfits are completely ridiculous. Women also do tend to wear more ridiculous outfits than men. I really don't understand why some women feel the need to have their breasts hanging out or wear see through tops as part of a smart outfit (i.e. in the same situation that a man would generally wear a suit), unless it's a fetish event or something.

I don't understand why there aren't ANY pictures of men though.

Most of these women look fine. Some of them look lovely.

worst dress lists are ridiculous. They certainty aren't news. Don't think you could ever make them not sexist though as a man in a suit or jeans in a T-shirt will never compete with the get ups women get away with wearing. Would just like to see them banished from anything that says news in its title
