I hope you all feel suitably chastened by that spectacularly patronising load of condescending bollocks Grin

RiaOverTheRainbow · 23/11/2012 23:20

Hardwood may I ask what you're doing in the FWR section when you clearly think it's all a waste of time? As you said yourself, we're all terribly stubborn and bitter, and we aren't likely to change our minds.

I am very sorry if you feel I have misrepresented you Hardwood

Would you mind explaining, in simple terms, how pole fitness and dancing fit into the way "society is, and always will be". On a fundamental level, of course. Do you think an exploitative sex industry is an inevitability? Indeed, do you think the sex industry is exploitative?

And is campaigning/meddling always to be avoided, even when one hopes to better society? Do you think campaigning, by women or men, has ever changed society for the better? You seem to be suggesting society has not really changed throughout the course of history, but surely I have misunderstood you again.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 24/11/2012 02:26

Oh, and I feel I must correct a misapprehension of your own. Neither Rosabud nor AnyFucker used personal insults, or shouted (generally conveyed in text by CAPS LOCK). You were told to 'bog off', which is an instruction, not an insult, and your post was described as a 'spectacularly patronising load of condescending bollocks', which is also not a personal insult as you personally were not described.

HTH

The evidence that I've seen implies that lapdancing clubs make areas more dangerous for women, not less. These are police figures.

Blistory · 24/11/2012 04:54

Women preying on men's weak and vulnerable areas ? Seriously ? Not going to waste any more time or energy on that post except to say what a truly misconceived load of tosh.

Oops. I may have given the wrong impression in my comment about FGM and stoning. My apologies, but the 'it's not happening in THIS country' comment was referring to the stoning, not the FGM. Sadly FGM is happening here, and on this I'm totally in support of anyone campaigning against it. It's illegal already, but the police and legal authorities aren't using their powers to intervene. So campaigning on this front definitely could work and is something that needs addressing - although it's not what this thread is about; but I have to correct what may be construed from what I've said.

not to worry, no-one is taking your verbose meanderings seriously, anyway Smile

Right... erm, welcome to the FWR section, Hardwood.
Obviously you're unwilling to follow your own advice and 'let sleeping dogs lie' (thought I'd keep that lower case so as to be nice and polite - no need to SHOUT is there, deary?)
Since this is so, how would you feel about reading a few more FWR threads, perhaps taking the view that FWR posters might in fact be reasonable people, and perhaps looking at some of the links provided, perhaps even reading posts without bias or paranoia before you post?
I'd be happy to answer your posts when I've got time and when they start to make some kind of sense, but in your posts so far, there's so little understanding of the reality of women's lives and the world in general that I don't have long enough to point out all the misconceptions.
That alright with you, love?

Oh how I would hate to be a man. There was me thinking that facing DV, sexual harassment, sexual discrimination, childbirth, rape, emotional abuse, being generally treated as a second class citizen might just mean that women, as a gender, had a pretty rough time of it. It has seriously never occurred to me that men might just have it worse.

Are you honestly telling me that men worry about being laughed at ? How bloody awful Sad . How come I wasn't aware of this ? Is there a campaign I can join ?

Blistory · 24/11/2012 12:18

This is serious - men have it even harder.

AnyFucker · 24/11/2012 12:20

I think it is softwood that has a fear of being laughed at

One can see why that sorry state of affairs has occurred Grin

I liked the last sentence in the article about the "courage" lapdancers show simply by going to work. I think that phrase outlines what many on here have tried to argue when challenged as to why they blame the male customers but not the women who choose to do the job. Whatever the reasons behind that choice (and, of course, most of those choices will be largely because other choices aren't there), it clearly remains an unpleasant thing to have to do with a lot of risks.

Also, all the statistics on whether or not crime does go down around lapdancing or poledancing clubs (and, the idea that it goes down implying that men's violence is somehow catered for by the club, is deeply worrying) probably ignore all the increased sexual harrassment (leering, catcalling etc etc) that many women in the area will experience as men leave these clubs but won't report.

These places have security (of the immediate environs...ignoring what goes on a few feet away) totally locked down. I wonder why.

Some of the staunchest defenders of sex establishments say "there could never be any wrongdoing by the men that frequent them, because security would prevent it". How to miss a point so spectacularly.

grimbletart · 24/11/2012 13:54

It's more difficult for a man to whine about it - Hardwood.

I dunno. You seem to be making a pretty good job of it......
