But don't you see, SamuraiCindy, the two aren't equivalent because PETA's advertising tactics just wouldn't work with a man.
Imagine a hairy man standing there with hair poking out of his speedos, on his legs, under his arms. How could they possibly market that as unattractive and therefore socially unaceptable? They couldn't, cos that is every man, every day. No man ever feels embarrassed for showing a bit of hair.
But it works with a woman because women are held to higher "beauty" standards, and PETA are knowingly using that double standard to further their aims. That's what sucks.
