Save The Boobs...

I may be late to this topic, I just saw this video because a friend on Facebook shared it. Pornhub was raising money for their 'Save the Boobs' campaign, but the charity has refused it.

I feel a bit conflicted on this, any money raised for charity should be a good thing, but instinctively I don't like it. It's not about saving 'the boobs', it's about saving women's lives!

And I feel compelled to disagree with TAA on almost every topic, ever since his dismissal of rape as 'so you got one dick you didn't want...shrug' and his constant feminist baiting.

I won't click the link, but I feel really ick about this. I was in a big mall in Chicago the other week, and noticed a shop with a huge, "Save the Tatas" poster in the window. There's also a viral photo on t'interweb of a man wearing a tee shirt imprinted with, "save 2nd base" on the back.

I don't believe that it should be "anything goes" with regard to raising money for charity and am relieved the charity refused money from Pornhub - sheesh. The mega problem with the focus on "saving the breast" as though it's some exotic, wild creature, is that that is NOT the purpose of breast cancer research or treatment of patients. It's to save the person's life and give them the best quality of life and comfort possible.

It just sends the message that the breast is the important thing here, not the person. It's another example of reducing women to body parts that are supposed to be representations of their sexuality, their identity.

There's already quite alot of criticism out there about the "pinkification" of breast cancer charities - how making something out as cute, fluffy and childlike can be very hurtful for women experiencing breast cancer.

Peggy Orenstein's blog on breast reconstruction is worth a read on this.
