Two children murdered by their father

I can't begin to understand why someone would kill their children.

Family annihilators are not exclusively male. Predominantly, maybe, but not exclusively. You go to your women only commune, SGM, and I'll stay in the real world. Anyway, what do you do with the little boys when they grow into men?

This man obviously had deeply seated problems going back years.
Tragic for everyone,especially the Mother who has lost her children in this case.
Women also kill themselves and their children when they are under extreme stress and unbalanced.
When they perhaps can't go on and they can't leave their children behind.
But it does seem that in these awful situations,men are the main perpetrators who do it to 'punish' their ex partners.

I think not having children with men who see women and children as possessions may be the way forward.

And sadly about as realistic a proposition as women-only communes.

There have been 2 children killed by their mothers in the last month in Ireland.

ah that's a relief! When I referenced someone on here saying all men should have nothing to do with child care or rearing, I was told I was being mad, fecking bonkers and "anti-FWR", by making up such slurs.
So it's good to see it repeated here, iyswim.

So the infintesimally small number of men who kill their children means no man should have anything to do with child rearing. Including me and any other fathers on MN as well? Or am I missing something here?

I repeat, family annihilators are not exclusively male. If you are going to explain the phenomenon, you have to have a theory that accounts for the exceptions as well as the rule.

What if you had you women only communes and this kind of thing still happened?

I was just thinking how,when women commit these awful acts they don't usually use such violence as stabbing,then i remembered the American woman in Edinburgh,she stabbed her children.
I don't begin to know what makes/drives some people to do these things,even in extreme circumstances when other people learn to cope somehow.

I think the news readers have mentioned that the family had had previous contact with the police. My worst fear is that we will find out there were domestic abuse issues with the family but, hey, because he was their Dad then he had every right to still see the children .

My XP said he would put us all in body bags just before he was kicked out. If he ever appears again then I would fight to the death to stop him having contact with the children. The whole story send chills down my spine.

That the men tend not to have been diagnosed with mental illness and the women more usually have might well say more about how aberrant behaviour in men and in women is viewed and labelled differently.

Of course it's tragic,a whole family has been shattered.
And yes,the poor children and their Mother and GPs and everyone who knew and loved them.

In some commune that could be post-natal abortion, an expression of a woman's right over her body and life. To call it 'child murder' would be a classed as 'hate speech'.

If you think I'm being facetious take a look at some of the views expressed in the 'abortion to term' thread; there's little fundamental difference between killing a child a month before or after it's birth.

Yes again it's a 'tragedy' not a murder. Agree that men are not predominantly family annihilators. But family annihilators are predominantly male (not exclusively - no one said exclusively).

We won't get better at managing this until we admit to ourselves that this is an expression of male rage and try to understand it. Calling it a private tragedy just masks the truth of it.
