Make love not porn

New sex site, founder keen to educate men about "real love making" not porny stuff.

Hurray?

That's a different situation then. If the purpose is not actually to educate young people about what sex would be enjoyable, but to make porn that young men would watch more ethical than it currently is (for who? I'm assuming the actors) then that should be the business proposal and the marketing strategy. And ethical porn has to be a bit more than upload a video and show us a document that proves you're an adult.

And I don't know whether or not teenagers are expressing sexual preferences to each other, but if they're not, that really does need to be resolved. But I'm not a teenager and don't know if that is true or not.

While I do think porn is an important issue (and my kids are teenagers so I do have to think about what to say), it is nowhere near as important as being able to communicate about sex to the person you are having sex with.

Hullygully · 18/09/2012 14:27

But that ^^ was the start point.

I know hully, just thinking aloud what would be ideal

I don't think more porn is ideal, and never will

Hullygully · 18/09/2012 14:37

do you think there is no such thing as erotica?

OP posts:
TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 18/09/2012 14:38

Hully do you mean writings about sex?

Hullygully · 18/09/2012 14:39

writings/pictures/moving pictures..

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 18/09/2012 14:39

eh ?

Hullygully · 18/09/2012 14:40

Do you not think (AF) that there is porn and there is erotica?

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 18/09/2012 14:43

I don't think porn and erotica are the same thing.

AnyFucker · 18/09/2012 14:43

if that is what you are asking

LRDtheFeministDragon · 18/09/2012 14:44

hully I do get where you're coming from, and why.

But given we know that the situation you describe - lots of young men watching porn; not much communication - needs to change, I think that's the only place to start from.

I do think we can. I'm reading at the moment about changing attitudes to DV, and how even amongst those people who're opposed to DV in theory, there's a long history of people disagreeing about what is practical to oppose and what is a natural evil, or ineradicable. I got into it because a friend of mine has surviving letters from her great-gran to her grandmother advising the grandmother to tell her husband to shout at her if he needs to get his temper out, but not hit her, as he 'naturally' needs some recourse for his anger. Today we'd be saying, get out, you don't have to put up with any of this.

So I would hope maybe porn culture could go the same way (not saying DV is more successfully eradicated than porn, just comparing stages of change in attitudes).

Hullygully · 18/09/2012 14:44

What differentiates them in your view?

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 18/09/2012 14:48

one is real people performing sex acts on camera

the other is not

is this a difficult concept ? Confused

Hullygully · 18/09/2012 14:50

But the first is what cindy wants for her new show, that's why it's different to porn and called makelovenotporn

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 18/09/2012 14:52

you think it is "different" to porn, in that it no longer fulfils the broad definition ?

I said upthread it may be "better" porn (wrt to how it objectifies women) but it is still porn.

AnyFucker · 18/09/2012 14:53

is this what Cindy is saying ? She is talking daft.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 18/09/2012 14:53

I think AF sees the first as porn. Erotica is in some way imagined. (drawn, written etc)

Apologies if I have misinterpreted.

Hullygully · 18/09/2012 14:54

I don't think anything.

The only reason I liked the sound of cindy's idea was that it was real (erotica) as opposed to horrid old porn.

Which it may not be. But she's saying it is.

OP posts:
Hullygully · 18/09/2012 14:55

Oh, do you think erotica isn't live? Is everything live porn? Have I misunderstood?

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 18/09/2012 14:58

Does it matter what I think ? Grin

Porn-live sex acts

Erotica-written, drawn, painted or photographed

Hullygully · 18/09/2012 15:01

Is that a general understanding of the terms?

I'm trying to understand here!

OP posts:
Hullygully · 18/09/2012 15:03

I don't know any other way to get to the bottom of things (hur hur) apart from lots of questions...

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 18/09/2012 15:03

It's my own understanding, chuck. All of it. I am no expert in these things, but I do have strong opinions on the matter.

That's the best I can offer you

MySpanielHell · 18/09/2012 15:05

I'd say porn is visual images of real people having sex. If it is a story, a drawing, a song or an animation then it is erotica.

There is some blurring when actors pretend to have sex on some tv shows, like some of the stuff HBO has produced. Because they're not really having sex but they're real people - that would be a blurring as some people would consider it soft porn but others wouldn't because of the context.

Hullygully · 18/09/2012 15:06

okay
