Sun article on Nicola Benedetti - horribly creepy & incredibly sexist (even for the Sun)

You know how Nicola Bendetti's an acclaimed classical musician? Blink and you might miss it with possibly the most misogynistic & downright creepy entertainment article I've ever read in the mainstream press:

www.thescottishsun.co.uk%2Fscotsol%2Fhomepage%2Fnews%2Fmattmeets%2F4502198%2FMatt-meets-Scots-violin-queen-Nicola-Benedetti.html&h=sAQFaAnFcAQETkfg9yaKwVbnV1s60CDEHAfK7LrU2SXPdIg&s=1

Yes, it's the Sun, which is practically a comic, but argh! She's not a page 3 model who has on some level 'volunteered' to be painted in a particular way, she's a classical violinist.

Sometimes it seems like the world has moved forward so much (and it has), but then a piece of utter claptrap makes it seem like you've stepped into a time warp.

She was on a news programme earlier tonight (Scotland Tonight) and was asked about the article. She comes across as a very articulate, intelligent person, forthright in her views and clearly passionate about her music. I suspect she pissed the journalist off by not 'playing the game' in going along with the sexist BS that they wanted to push as part of their agenda, and the fuckwit journalist responded with that awful article. She doesn't appear to be someone who would suffer fools gladly, and no doubt put the letch in his place. In being asked about the article, she basically said that she would rather take all the focus and negativity from the article and turn that around and help put focus onto her passion for music, culture, youth and, in particular, classcal music.

MeanAndMeaslyGabeeshAges · 30/08/2012 00:22

Oooh, I hate the mobile app sometimes!

How deeply deeply depressing! Just read it to my DH and he was stunned. "is that a 'Nuts' article?" sickening. I just can't find the words.

bobbledunk · 30/08/2012 18:26

I'm actually shocked, what a slimy weirdo, it amazes me that anyone would pay him for writing interviews, he's talentless with perviness oozing out of every sentence. Repulsive creep....Shock

Each time I see another post on this thread I'm almost persuaded to have a look at the link.
Healthy blood pressure levels and a rage free Thursday evening are precious things to me, though.
Sounds like more grossness similar to sleazy reporting on volleyball players.
In which case, yy GreyTS the idea of this being presented to children as 'normal', 'acceptable' or anything other than shameful, slimy, pondlife sleaze is really depressing.

vom!!!!

I love Nicola, saw her live at a Childrens classic concert in Glasgow.

4 drinks on a night out - what's up with that? She sounds lovely.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 31/08/2012 00:07

Awful article. The comments cheered me up though.

Whitamakafullo · 31/08/2012 10:06

Did you see the article in the Scotsman about it? very funny Smile

tribpot · 31/08/2012 17:54

I couldn't get your link working, Whita - will this one work? Hope so, as the article is indeed hilarious.

FactOfTheMatter · 31/08/2012 18:46

I actually gasped at I bet he would. Vile.

Whitamakafullo · 31/08/2012 21:51

Oops, yes trilbot that's the one Smile

Whitamakafullo · 31/08/2012 21:51

tribpot even Blush

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/08/2012 21:59

Did the "journo" think he was working for The Daily Sport or something? Sounds like he deliberately wanted to make this story as sexist as he could.

I know it's The Sun, but seriously.

Latara · 01/09/2012 01:22

How did that journalist even get to be a journalist?

I think it's likely that Nicola Benedetti has never read the Sun & genuinely didn't know what to expect; but her agent should have known.

There is no excuse for the journalist's totally pervy creepiness though.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 01/09/2012 09:34

Thanks, trib.

I wonder if the Sun turned up with a selection of outfits for the shoot, she said "umm, nope!" and this was some kind of Payback.
