Jim Wells is an elected member of the biggest party in NI. He's in the running for Health Minister.

So, he would like all abortion - which is already illegal in NI unless the mother is in mortal danger - outlawed. Even for rape. Because lots of couples are just dying to adopt a little one.

Women, know your place. In Protestant NI, that would be a walking uterus.

ARGH.

Terrible. It's about time women in NI were given the same right to safe abortion as women in the rest of the UK.

The law doesn't even stop Irish and Northern Irish women having abortions, it just forces them to travel to mainland Britain to do it. They just want to make it as difficult as possible for women already at a vulnerable time in their lives, presumably as some kind of punishment. The restriction disproportionately affects the poor, who can't afford to go charging off to England at a moment's notice to get what should be basic healthcare.

Rape survivors and other women travelling abroad for abortion can get charitable support from the Abortion Support Network, but it's an organisation running on a shoestring. The situation in NI really needs to change, and soon.

The DUP are known for their archaic views. The law on abortions in NI is disgusting.

IMO not enough young people are going into politics. Here and in england. Leaving the country to be run by a generation that are stuck in the past and out of touch with reality.

I dont understand why theres so much crap being talked about rape recently. Surely it needs highlighted in a serious way, not by basically saying if a woman is raped she should just deal with it. If her body doesnt shut down the pregnancy then she must go through with it. Can these people hear what they are saying?

Its a very damaging message being sent out to us and our daughters.

Same party think homosexuality should be made illegal. Living in the dark ages.

IMHO they are all a bunch of hypocrites - think Iris Robinson coming over all moralistic about homosexuality while having an affair ! I am truly embarrassed by the vast majority of politicians in NI who unfortunately get elected because of the unionist / republican divide and not because they are actually any good !

He surely can't have missed the opportunity to say 'legitimate rape', followed by its close friend 'forcible rape' (as opposed to the voluntary kind).

And I quite agree, TeaAndHugs.
