Video game designed to punch female blogger in face and online sexual harrassment

This is making news on Twitter right now and I'd like to share it here. Also posted in Chat.

Anita Sarkeesian wanted to make some web documentaries about stereotypes in videogaming and set up a fund to raise money to do this.

Since then, she's been sent mock-up graphics of her being raped and a video game was designed to punch her in the face.

NB. Re: triggering. Mocked-up images of her being sexual assualted are included here (albeit blurred)

Yep, saw that. It's ghastly. I've seen some of her films and they are great as well.

The guy who designed it is being challenged on Twitter. He says she wouldn't listen to his arguments so he thought this would make her sit up and take notice.

FFS.

It's not surprising that misogynist losers react badly when their precious male supremacy-glorifying media/wank material is criticised. They always do. But this level of hatred, entitlement and ignorance is stupefying. It reminds me of that time an african-american woman criticised the racist Resident Evil 5 trailer. She got tons of hate, generally including racist and sexist slurs. They just keep proving the point of the one they attack.

I hope Anita's project becomes succesful and that many eyes are opened by it and the misogynist backlash.

He's helped Anita's cause far more than he could ever have imagined.

So glad the sexually violent images and abuse directed at women are being challenged vehemently by both men and women on Twitter right now.

That is sickening. I am astounded by the sheer force of hatred and misogyny on the Internet. It shows how much Anita's critiques are needed. What could possibly justify such vitriolic and nasty responses? Pure woman-hatred.

"some women deserve to have the crap kicked out of them."

That's the latest comment to one gaming journalist's take on the story ...
