So I ask my friend what her DS would like for his birthday. 'art/crafty stuff' is the reply. So off I pop to John Lewis. Where I swear, not one arty or crafty product was not pink. There was nothing. My question is, I would like to think John Lewis would be receptive to a bit of pressure - do you agree and is anyone in?

Yes i agree and yes I am in

Disgraceful Sad

Yes, I'm in, what do you have in mind?

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/06/2012 01:15

Which John Lewis did you go to? The one near us has loads of art/craft stuff that isn't pink... I was really impressed as I hate being forced into buying anything pink for DD (2.5).

Their website has quite a lot of non-pink stuff too I'd say here

In ELC yesterday - pink laptop, blue laptop, pink worktop, blue laptop.
Princess stuff galore. Go into Fenwicks - a mass of pink and blue.

Into Morrisons - colouring books for boys (tractors, trains), colouring book for girls (princess, ponies)

It's everywhere :(

Edinburgh. There were fewer things on the shelf than in Hercule's link but even on that link things are very genderised, eg princess stickers / pirate stickers.

If I have time today I'll try and pop in for another look, and then I'll write to them as a start. Any other ideas welcome!

ok, but were they labelled up as 'for girls' and 'for boys'?

it's very easy to get embroiled into the 'pink stinks' argument - what is wrong with a pink ironing board or a blue truck?

my answer is nothing, until it's marketed with gender stereotyping. until then, it's a colour

Hobbycraft is brilliant. My friends daughter was thrilled when she discovered that the one of the girls who worked there on a Saturday was a massive Warhammererer (? what are they called Confused?), like herself.

Lots of basic craft bits too.

It's a shame John Lewis is heading the same way as ELC though.

Yes I think they would be receptive.
