The EU has spent actual money on a campaign designed to interest girls in science.

this is the result.

"We want to make scence sexy" they say.

WHY???? Wtf has sexy got to do with it???

slug · 22/06/2012 15:45

Just reported it to YouTube as inappropriate on the grounds of extreme sexism.

squeaver · 22/06/2012 15:45

The plot thickens...

Over on Twitter, the agency co-ordinating the campaign Tipik (@tipik) have said:
Our professional ethics do not allow us to take a stand on the debate. For your information, the campaign teaser was produced by @Emakina

Emakina appears to be a digital/video agency. They're saying nowt.

The press person is someone called Michael Jennings (@ECspokesScience) who has said:
Hope was to get young people onto site. That seems to be happening!

I have told him that he is as naive as he is deluded if that's what he thinks.

TheSpokenNerd · 22/06/2012 15:49

Oh right squeaver so they're distancing themselves are they the twunts. Like they never saw a copy of this drivel BEFORE it was launched and then agreed it could be released.

What a crock.

I am not on Twitter...would you mind quoting some of the other people on here? And asking him why he thinks women and science boils down to CLOSE UPS OF HIGH HEELS AND MAKEUP??

SardineQueen · 22/06/2012 15:52

On the facebook page a german has posted thus:

"Dieses Video ist eine Frechheit. Sexistische Scheisse, finanziert aus Steuergelder. Ekelhaft!

This video is an impertinence. Sexist bullshit, paid with our tax. Disgusting!"

Brilliant! I am going to start using "impertinence" a lot at sexist twonks Grin

lastnerve · 22/06/2012 15:52

Oh dear god, that was painful on so many levels.
If I hadn't been told I would have assumed it was a fashion advert or something.

I love how the only glamorous/attractive person in the video was the bloke.

those other three looked like a few teenagers trying to look like women, was so horribly try hard. I know that's not the main issue. But its funny that,
they have not managed a remotely educational or sexy advert, failed both ways.

TheSmallPrint · 22/06/2012 15:55

WTAF?!!! Shock just Shock

Tortington · 22/06/2012 15:56

I wont say this often in here

but i agree, what a load of utter utter shit

drjohnsonscat · 22/06/2012 15:56

It's like that Swedish culture minister eating the racist cake depicting female genital mutilation

say what now?

Grin at impertinence

yellowraincoat · 22/06/2012 15:57

"Frechheit" is such a great word.

squeaver · 22/06/2012 16:01

And this is some other work from the agency responsible.

OP posts:
slug · 22/06/2012 16:03

Something which have just pointed out to @tipik on twitter squeaver

grimbletart · 22/06/2012 16:05

We want to overturn clichés .. said the Commissioner.

What better way to do that than to make a video that packs more fucking clichés into a couple of minutes than is physically possible - except they've managed it.

What utter twattery.Angry

squeaver · 22/06/2012 16:08

Are you G_rak, slug?

OP posts:
kickassangel · 22/06/2012 16:13

wouldn't it be great if people researched advertising agencies, and refused to use ones that had been associated with any sexist/racist etc shit? but then i doubt if any agencies would ever work again.

Thumbwitch · 22/06/2012 16:18

Emakina, hey? AKA bunch of misogynistic sexist pigs? Urgh more.

drjohnsonscat · 22/06/2012 16:22

I've just looked up Emakina. I just knew they wouldn't be a British agency. Not that British agencies can't be sexist but they do it in a more sophisticated way which in some ways is worse because it's insidious. But this is just so naive and clodhopping.

TheSpokenNerd · 22/06/2012 16:26

Yes drJohnsons exactly!

PassTheTwiglets · 22/06/2012 16:33

But without adverts like this to attract women to science, how else will we learn to make new nail varnish colours and new eyeshadow textures? Oh wait, is that not what science is about?

TheSpokenNerd · 22/06/2012 16:35

Duh....I dunno....I thunk it was all about splosions and weirdos myself.

yellowraincoat · 22/06/2012 16:36

They have just tweeted this as well:

Football never looked prettier

Fucking hell, I mean, just...WHAT? "Emakina?s Bavaria Babes smartphone app lets football fans become ?international players? by collecting pictures of themselves with scantily-clad women. Football never looked prettier."

Yay! Just yay!

slug · 22/06/2012 16:45

Ha squeaver, no I'm not. I'm keep my twitter identity pretty anonymous

garlicbum · 22/06/2012 16:49

"Emakina?s Bavaria Babes smartphone app lets football fans become ?international players? by collecting pictures of themselves with scantily-clad women. Football never looked prettier."

For
Fucking
Fuck's
Sake
!

I bet their ironic kneeling-woman coffee tables are made with live women Hmm

SardineQueen · 22/06/2012 16:51

"Beer, babes and football... Need we say more? Check the teaser and download the App on your smartphone!"

Why the fuck would anyone sane think that this organisation were a good choice to address schoolgirls and young women???
